Hey peeps. I am considering an aluminum or fiberglass tub to get the weight down. I would also run a glass front clip, prolly a 1-piece job with the hood and all attached. Anybody out there using an aluminum or glass body tub?? Anybody know exactly how much lighter the aluminum/glass tub and front clip would be compared to the steel???
I was guessing around 5-600 lbs lighter overall...
Also, i am leaning towards aluminum cause i think glass wouldn't last very long. Aluminum will take a little beating before it breaks, glass just cracks...
any input welcome!

No hay problemo amigo. Let's see here... at about 2 grand that's only around $11.50 per pound. Pretty good deal :smokin: I was looking at those too (my tubs pretty shot) but then I started thinking of all the junk I could get instead...so I've decided to go with a tube body and bolt on the quarter panels I already have.

I would guess no more than 400 from the firewall back, since four people can easily carry it.
You could save more than 400 lbs just by swapping those Rockwells for D60s :flipoff2:

man, after all the work i've been through, umm NO!
i really don't think the rockwells are much heavier than 60s with the brakes off, and stuff. maybe save 200-300 lbs. But i would break 60's...
so, anyways, looks like i could save about 225 going to aluminum, what about the front clip??
thanks ya'll-
My recommendation is aluminium. I saw a guy roll his truck (into mine :( ) that had a custom cage mounted to the aluminum tub ONLY. The tub appeared to be fine with no distortion. I have seen him also slide the tub over rocks with no resulting dents.
Try that with glass. :smokin:
