i've got a bronco 2 with a mazda m50d-r1 tranny and a borg warner 1354 manual tcase. I've got a noise that kinda sounds like a dry bearing but extremely loud while decelerating and while rolling in neutral. I can hear it while in gear but not near as loud as while coasting. It seems to be near the shifter area which is about where the t-case and tranny meet. I figure its in the t-case though. Throwout/clutch/slave cylinder wear all replaced 50 miles ago. Sounds to far back in the tranny area to be the throwout and the throwout bearing doesn't spin in 4th on these trannys so i ruled that out. It does it more in 3rd 4th and 5th above 2k the most but makes the most noise while decelerating to a stop. I dunno if it might be a input bearing or something but i'm not sure. I've got a spare t-case but didn't see anything noticable while glancing at it.

your tranny is getting ready to die...my m5od did that noise about 2 weeks before it crapped out...:(

i would check some other things before jumping on the fact that the tranny is shot, but hey it might be. u joints, slop in rear end, loose outputs on t case?

You could always pour in some fine hardward sawdust or wood flour to extend your transmissions life by a month...maybe two.
