Just got an 87 Cherokee. How much lift can I go w/o doing an SYE conversion. I really want to fit 32x10.50 TSL Radials under it w/ substantiall fender trimming. Can I do 4 " without converting the Slip Yoke P.O.S.:barf: :barf: ?

I would lift it first and see how it does. I ran 6.5" lift on my XJ with no problems what-so-ever. I added only a high angle yoke to the t-case end.

i run with a guy that has 7 inches of lift on his XJ and runs a slip yoke, he has no vibe probs rollin 37s as his dd

From what I've seen, some people can get away without an SYE while others experience vibes at 3" of lift. Plan your lift by what you intend to do with the vehicle, not by whether or not you can get away without an SYE. I would not recommend using a stock driveshaft for a tall lift. Much less of the driveshaft is engaging the splines and much more force is being exerted on the end of the t-case main shaft where the splines are engaged. To me, a t-case drop defeats the purpose of a lift. Since with a tall lift you will need a longer drive shaft anyway, and the slip yoke design is crappy to begin with, plan on using an SYE. It's cheaper in the long run to go ahead and lift to where you want and get what you need for that lift than to try and do things halfway.

I have a 6" lift on my 89 with my stock drive line and I have no problems.

Little over 6" with 33's, stock drivetrain and no problemas. :D

Thanks everybody that posted. I am thinking about going ahead and doing a 4-4.5" lift w/ the long travel slip yoke from Rusty's Off Road. I should be allright then.

From what I have heard you can use a YJ slip yoke and have a longer travel version than the XJ version...I wouldn't spend the money on the rustys...FWIW
