i have some questions about the calipers used on rear disc conversions. many people are saying to use 78 model calipers off a cadilac, does it matter if the caddy is front wheel drive or rear drive? also, why does it have to be a cadilac, could the calipers come from a camaro or a explorer rear axle? or, if the e-brake isn't a concern, could the calipers come off the front of lets say a 3/4 ton pickup? i'm planning on getting all parts from the bone yard since i'm trying to keep cost as low as possible, so resources may be limited to other calipers besides the caddy.
thanks in advance for any input:beer:

they're telling you to get the REAR calipers from a cadillac. the same calipers are on Eldorado's, Buick Toronado's, and several other gm vehicles of that era. the reason they're telling you to get those calipers is because they have a parking brake mechanism in them, though somewhat marginal for a large 4x4.

10 bolt calipers are a common swap, no e brake, but the backing plates are easy to find and so are the calipers. Chevy IFS rotors also work well, depending on what lug pattern you're shooting for, oyu can ahve them redrilled. This is the setup I'm running on my ford 9" with a tcase ebrake.

why not use Montycarlo calipers and get a line lock?

DO a SEARCH!!!

this was just a topic what last week?

Damn people are lazy.

Monte carlo calipers are standard gm small calipers used on 92 on up cameros and such

They say to use Elderado calipers because they have the parking brake built in..
