The mechanic at my shop is converting his 1990 2wd dodge ram to 4wd and needs to know if he can keep the 2wd crossmember under the engine, cut off the coil spring and a-arm mounts, box in the crossmemberand leave it, or does he heve to swap the 4wd engine crossmember into 2wd thuck.
He is also putting a 8" lift in the truck.
Thanks Rob.

2WD crossmember is different than the 4WD unit, not as much clearance for the differential. However, the 8" lift would take care of that...

What does this have to do with TDR? I didn't see any reference to it being a CTD truck...

If the goal is to lift the truck rather than do a stock conversion, I don't think there will be a problem with doing it. If this were me, I would basically do some research and start fresh with my own thoughts and ideas rather than trying to copy what the factory did originally.

What is had to do with it is that there are probably 10 people on every night who have done the conversion. I dont see that here, but i might be wrong. THats all. I dont like to pimp websites, but anything doing with dodge trucks 89-2006ish is on TDR IMO. I have nev3er done it. But I would search there along with here too.

Ok i did this to a 99 dodge we cut out the motor crossmeneber for mor axle travel. You need to decide how tall it will be leaf springs or coils and how much travel u want. I gained probably 6 inches but i went to leaf springs and fit 38s no problem even tucked. But i built a 10 bolt 44 outers for 5 on 5.5.
Cromealloy shafts ctm's and 4.56 gears front and rear. 205 divorced transfer case and twin sticked.Had to modify the tranny crossmember to make room for a really long front driveshaft. I can still run down the road i think my milege improved abit to.
