kodiak1232003 08-02-2006, 09:59 PM hidey-ho neighbors...
you may or may not know that im scouring the hills of Montana for a cheap 4x4 and i think i may have found it...
need some advice and clarification as i suck at scouts
the stuff i DO know
-1979 Scout (ll?)
-350ci
-rusty as hell
-supposedly runs well(was a DD for a college girl..hehe)
-auto tranny, so t-407(tf727?)
-removable top
-low price(under 1000)
questions
-what axles are possible? D44's? if so, what type? disc front? HP? D60 rear?
-what tcase? has one stick and a 2Hi-N-4Hi-4Lo pattern in a straight line, didn't get a chance to peek underneath. did the TF727 only come with one tranny, due to it being an option? d300?
np205? D20?
thanks
regards
brian

If it has a 350 who the hell knows what else is under it, crawl under and look. Or do you mean 345?
kodiak1232003 08-02-2006, 10:13 PM well, the for sale sign said 350, but i looks VERY stock, so yah, consider it a 345...
345, Dana 20 T/C, Dana 44 front a rear axles, TF 727 Tranny If it stock.
kodiak1232003 08-02-2006, 10:51 PM kewl, thats kinda what i thought. thanks. i'll verify in a few days if i decide to get it...
thanks

If it's a little itty bitty engine, it's a 350.. if it's a monster.. it's a 345, which would be stock.
Look at the big intake manifold for the firing order and "Time on #8" and it's an IH 304/345/392 engine.
If it's an SV (IH V8), then it's a TF727 with a Dana 20. If it's a 350, you need to find out if they used the AA adapter between the 350/727, or got more creative (and wiser) and went with a TH350/TH400/TH700 or something else in which case they might've spent the money to adapt it to the Dana 20, or went with a '205, '203, Dana 300, or who knows what else. :)
..but where do you plan to wheel around Missoula? The hairbags have succeeded in locking up just about anything that used to be available..
kodiak1232003 08-03-2006, 11:28 AM sweet thanks!

Just wait, you'll hunt and look for years, chase leads only to come up empty. Then one day you'll be sitting in a bar talking to some local and out of no where some old fart will emerge seemingly out of nowhere and tell you he's got one of them old Jeeps locked away in a barn. He'll be looking to move and need to get rid of it. So you'll carefully plan the day to go get your prize. He'll walk over, fumble with the keys and the old padlock for a few minutes. By this time you can taste the MB in the barn, waiting to be discoverd. He'll throw open the door only to find.........................
A clapped out old Scout! Good luck in your hunt!!
AND SLOWLY, DELIBERATLY, I BOW DOWN...LOL!!HAHAHA
4x4in 08-11-2006, 04:19 PM If your looking for extra axles and the such, I am in Billings and am looking to move stuff cheap. It is taking up space. I replaced my stuff with full size Chevy so these are just sitting. Along with some interior parts.
Have fun with the Scout, it's an addiction.

I'm always in the market for spare axles n' such.. and I should be in Billings 9/9-10, probably for both the Rock Crawl at BMP and the "CORR" race in Acton.
Only room for one rig on the trailer, so I'll be bringing the racer to compete on Sunday and watching/helping at the Rock Crawl. The thought of using my trail Scout to tow 250 miles and back just isn't as appealing these days as it once was.
..but there's always room for an axle or three in the truck or on the trailer. :D
