Ok I want to learn how to build up my CJ5 (I know that this is not gonna be easy but i want to try). I have wheeled it for years now to the point where I need to build it better than stock. As it sits now the front end is out the eng is blown and the tranny is trashed. To sum it up I want to build it up myself and I have basic mechanical and welding skills. I really don't know where to start when putting wider axels and getting the driveline angles correct. Dose anyone suggestions or any write ups to help me to get started? I have a 78 f250 that was gave to me and was thinking of putting the running gear from it in my cj5. I don't know if this is possible or not but I sure with a little work time and a welder anything can be done.

A little hint, search

secondly, that F250 gear would be perfect for that 5, assuming it is a 4wd F250;)

:flipoff2: Welcome Newbie! :flipoff2:

There's an ancient Chinese proverb that goes something like "Only fools give advice and only fools take it."

That said, I'm feeling foolish today :D and you sound like you have a good attitude, so I'll offer the following pieces of advice:

1. Lurk and learn first; type later.
2. Read the Jeep Talk Mission Statement.
3. SEARCH first; ask questions later.
4. Don't expect people to answer stupid questions.
5. Don't take shit too personally--we're only kidding. :flipoff2:

Do you care what it looks like????

If not. cut the whole ass end out of it to make room for big tires and a longer wheel base, this will help you fit the f250 stuff.

Search to get some picture of rear fender cutting.

outbourd your springs, grind off the old f250 pads and flip them around for an SOA lift.

Buy rims and tires, call jess for a rear driveshaft, build your own front, or have one built cheap...it does not need to be balanced that closely if its in the front.

Little stuff like motor mounts, tranny crossmembers, brakes , clutch and such will take up a lot of time and more money than you think but you will be able to figure it out with time.

You could spend 3 grand and with the f250 stuff have a BAD Arse jeep.

Thanks for the info!!! I'm sure that i'll have more when i get started. BTW As long as it runs and holds up when i go wheelin i could care less what it looks like.

My best advise is to do spend your time researching and do everything right the first time around. You'll regret hasty decisions.
