I want to go with a NV 4500, the guys at dodge told me that as long as I find a 2500 gas 360Magnum with the 4500 attached, I can put all that on my 318 and it will work no problems. is the bolt pattern on the front of the trans to bellhousing different? ramv 08-03-2006, 03:23 PM Different inputs and outputs I believe. (between Chevy and Dodge). PM Rufus, he did this swap. Sounds like the dealer steered you correctly. Iwould also grab the 241 case as the 231 HD is junk. Older Chevys also had 6.34 first instead of 5.61. SeahawkDodge 08-06-2006, 09:05 AM If you have a 99 Ram, you don't (or at least shouldn't) have a Getrag transmission. You should have an NV3550 transmission. The build sheet under the hood of your truck should tell you what you actually have. I am pretty sure the bellhousing is different on the GM models, and won't bolt up. Wulfman 08-07-2006, 09:42 AM I've got this exact setup preped for install in my '52 M37. I've got the 318 and I picked up a rebuilt Dodge 2WD NV4500. It wasn't a problem to get a new bellhousing from the Dodge Delership to mate the NV to the 318. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with this route or go back to my NP540 for this truck. If your interested in the NV and the bellhsouing, let me know. I'm in NorCal. I do have a NV3500, they built like 5 different styles with the same model name, The 3550 I think is the same trans with a removable bellhousing.
