I went to drive my 89 manche 4.0 5-speed this morning and teh oil preasure was sky high. at idle it was sitting at teh 3/4 mark and at 3000 rpm the guage was maxxed. I changed nothing between last night and this morning and I need to take a 60 mile highway trip later today. What are teh possible culprits of this? CPS? Computer? HELP!!!!!

Your oil pressure sending unit took a crap. It is right behind the distributor and above the oil filter on the block. It will have one wire coming from it. I would pull the wire, clean it then put it back on. This will usually fix the problem. If not, get a new sending unit ($20) and unscrew the old one and put the new one in. I would teflon tape the threads.
Stop panicing. If you don't want to put a factory unit it you can also replace it with a munual gauge and it will be more reliable and acuratre, but it is more work to convert it.

I'm not trying to panic, the steering box is leaking oil like a siv out the bottom and the front drivers axle u-joint is going out. I am worried enough about taking this thing back to Denver to park it and an uncontrolably high oil preasure was teh last thing I needed.
damn, anyone want to take this thing of my hands?
thanks for teh help, I'll try that.
p.s. I would have posted this on JU but it is still running slower than anything I've seen in a long time. Good to see that POR was able to sort things out fast.

damn dude, did you come down on a rock or sumthin?
oil pressure sending unit sounds about right. mine (AMC 360) was only $4 at the zone. dunno why a 242's would be $20. computers maybe...

It might be cheaper now. I had to buy one for my Jeep about 5 years ago and the dealer was the only place I could find it.

yep. I pulled it and cleaned the connection, problem solved. what exactly will happen if that u-joint on teh front drivers side hub fails at 70mph?

Well dont drive it in 4 wheel drive and it wont do much. I replaced one on my XJ that rattled, all the bearings were gone. When your not in 4 there isnt much stress on the joint. How much you want for the heep?
