been looking at getting a grinder to clean up some rust in the trunk of a bmw i bought.

what do you think. i dont need anything really heavy duty like a 7 or 9" miluakee. just a good solid grinder that isnt going to give up the ghost quick like cheap tools do. would also like to use it for cleaning up welds, cutting metal, etc.

Just get a 4.5" Milwaukee. That's what I've got and it's been one of the best tools I own.

Dam with 10 amps thats a lot of power for a little grinder. I have a dewalt that looks like that but with less amp draw, maybe an earlier model. Mine works fine, but I don't really like the way the paddle switch works. My .02 would be to go to a tool store and compare the switch operation to other similar priced grinders. Make sure that whatever you get has the 5/8-11 threads

While I generally don't like DeWalt, I do have an earlier version of that grinder (8.5 amps?) because it was on sale. It's a good unit and I like the paddle switch moreso than the to switch (like a Makita).

We only use DeWalt grinders at work. I defintaly reccommend them. A mix between the model you linked to, and the DW802. I like the paddle switch. I use mine around 3 hours or so per day, 5 days a week.

Its not so much the grinder as it is the disc/wire brushes you use. Dont skimp out on those and you should be fine.

And, I am partial to the switch and not the paddle. Yeah, I know its a safety thing, but I really prefer the switch as I can move my hands to other spots on the grinder if I need to get into a weird spot or something.
