I have an older project that I am working on, and need some info on transmission choices. The project is a '64 Ford Econoline van (Scooby Doo type) that I am going to convert to 4wd. It has the very rare Daganham four speed manual tranny with column shift, and a 200 straight six. The Daganham will be pulled. The 200 is getting a turbocharger.
Now, what I need to know, are which manual transmissions use the side mounted shift rails instead of a top mounted shifter, AND are married to a transfer case that either uses a straight throw shift pattern (think np203) or can be converted to straight throw twin sticks. Making the choices harder, is that I need a passenger side drop transfer case. I need to be able to shift the transfer case remotely, instead of the shifter coming through the floor in the middle of the van. I'm hoping I can keep a manual tranny in it, either three or four speed. Did the older Broncos use a side shifted manual tranny? Anyone have info on a tranny-transfer case adapter for a side shifted transmission? Due to the short wheelbase and engine placement, I cannot use a divorced passenger drop np203 like I first wanted, the rear driveshaft will be too short
Thanks in advance.
