I am getting close to buying some new tire for my scout II and don't know what size to go with. I just got some hummer rims and a dana 60f so it's time to get the tires. I have fullwidth chevy axles and a spring over and was wondering what size you guys think I should go with. I have 35s on it right now and I have had to trim a little but I can get some 37s for $20 more a tire and was wondering if it would be worth it. Some pictures of what you guys have would help me get an idea of what it would look like. I don't drive my scout everyday but I do drive it to the trails that I run (1-2 hour drive) and would like to keep some streetability.

Tame answer:::::

35's and Dana60's are not going to work. You will spend more time dodging rocks and debris so you don't anchor your fucking shit on the trail.

Air down a 35 and you basically have the diff clearance of a fully aired up 31-33" tire. Add in the additional pumpkin dimension of the D60 and you might as well stay on the sofa...

Get some fucking 38's or 39.5's...

PS:::: I have 36's with a D60 rear....you should see my lower housing...40's will be my next purchase...

I run 37's with a D44 front.....I'd kill to run bigger tires.....you have a D60F.....go big....no less than 40's or we need to trade axles. Why have a 60 unless you need it????????????

Daily driver? Daily's don't need no stinking 60 and weeny D44 sized tires.

35's without a doubt. That's $80 you'd save and could put towards some chrome.

Run the biggest tires your drivetrain can handle with the least amount of lift -- i.e. sawall.

10-4 on bigger is better. I run 42's w/60 and diff cover is beat to hell.

You need to think 39-42'' with 1 ton gear....if you want to be safe go 39's

I am dragging my diffs on 38's. I am going to 42's next for better clearance.

The reason I'm went with the 60 is because I have busted my 44 three times and I am getting sick of it plus I got a killer deal on the 60. I also didn't say this was my daily driver I just drive it to the trails I run and I don't have one bit of chrome on my ride. I am not building a hardcore rockcrawler but it isn't a grocery getter either. I need a tire that will be alright on the road for a little drive. I didn't ask how big I should go I asked if I should get 35s or 37s, I guess you guys sort of answered my question by saying I should go with no less than 40s, so I will probably get the 37s. And I have 35s right now and haven't hit my diff cover one time, I have drug my 14 bolt once or twice but it sound like some people need to learn drive better or get stronger diff covers.

Sounds like you don't wheel very hard :D

If you aren't hitting your 14 bolt on everything with 35's your really not trying very hard. I have 36's and hit mine all the time. I've peeled back the cover a few times - use it as a plow all the time. And my axle is shaved at least an inch so I have the clearance as if I had 37's +/-

And I wish I had another inch of clearance at least! :shaking:

Get the 37's you'll be fine crusing around town on them...

Again this is NOT an around town ride. I feel like I wheel pretty hard I just take lines that avoid hitting my covers. I haven't shaved my 14 bolt and I think that has helped me the few times I have drug it. I tried one of my buddies 36s on this morning and I think that 37s will be just fine. They give me the ground clearance that I need. And I don't think that I will have to change my gears to compensate.

You definetly need the biggest tire you can fit. If you go out a wheel and never bump or bang your stuff up, you are not using it to the fullest of its potential. I am not talking about beating the hell out of it, but if you are not getting denied on the trail then its not driver skill, it lack of use.

id have to agree with these guys... if your lookin for a tire, you may as well go with the biggest tire you can fit... 14 bolts on 40" tires have less clearence as dana 44's on 38's...

That was a silly quesiton for Pirate. What did you expect people to say?

Expect all reply's to be flames and be supprised if one or two aren't! That way your not expecting too much. Thats my reasoning!

Maybe we can all get together at the shopping mall you wheel at so you can teach us how to drive. :flipoff2:

I haven't shaved my 14 bolt and I think that has helped me the few times I have drug it.

 I'm confused. NOT shaving the bottom of your 14-bolt has HELPED you when you have drug it?? I would think it would have HURT you (i.e. because you DID hit it).

I'm curious what terrain you wheel as well. I could see just basic trails not having a clearance issue, but on the rocks... heck I've beat and pealed the cover on my D44 with 33's and I have shaved it too. It just happens on the rocks. I would think mud and/or ruts would be even worce.... and then there's snow

Got any wheeling pics?

I agree with the others, run the biggest tire you [want] to fit. Clearance is your friend. But if your happy with your 35's, then stick with them. If your going to run H1 rims on stock, full-width axles without spacers, prepar to kill your hub-locks.... but wait, you don't hit your un-shaved 14B....... so you should be fine :flipoff2:

Welcome to Pirate in case you didn't already figure that out :flipoff2:  :flipoff2:

To bad you didn't ask about 36's? Takes a lot of sawzall to clear full flex with just a SOA...

Go big or go home, chrome for sure wont get you home. Sounds like you got plently of brut to handle those tires.

Those 36s look good. I'm not afraid to sawzall some metal I just don't want to lift it any more. Thanks for the picture.
