No...the board bailed mid way through the post :flipoff2:

Clifford says not to use jb weld or anything like it for the water jackets, says it HAS to be brazed. Anybody here actually used a kragen product  and had it work?

Keith, Jaffers web site shows 3 ways to overcome the water jacket problem. If you wern't going to weld them, I think I like the 3/4 freeze plug option. Check it out, or e-mail him. I'm sure he will be willing to help.

I think your cheapest option (going for the 4.2) will be your best option. Should have much better torque than your 4.0l How far are you comming along?

lotsa people just use the headgasket bare and let it seal up the differences between the block and the head. I've never heard of one blowing, so I'm willing to believe it.

REALLY???????????? That would be sweet.

Here is where I am at. Got a 258 complete and supposedly running (Gracias Joe ;) ) Got both motors torn down and ready to build (only have 9 days left till the bachelor party

Tonight I am going to clean it all up and prep for assembly, this includes handling the water jackets. Setting it up for freeze plugs or bwelding it up is not really an option (no time and honestly no inclination) I am thinking about using Quiksteel to seel em up  Think it will work?

Tmomorrow got crap for work to do late so cant work onit, so Friday is the final assembly of the motor and Saturday stuff it in.

Its gonna be interesting, lets all hope this works ;)

I really have to believe it will work.
I recently rebuilt a Neon POS top end and the factory head gasket was the termination for several water passages.
Even the BMW FSM's reccomend filling pitted areas on aluminum heads with JBweld-equivilant and just grinding it flush.
hey, if it blows, it's not like you don't know how to change the head gasket...:D

Keith-
Just pre-mount (with centering sleeves in necessary) the 4.0 head on the 4.2 block.
Majic Marker any over lapping head deck area from underneath on the manifod side.
If the 4.2 block's deck edge covers the 4.0 head's deck near the triangular ports by at least 1/8 inch, then the 4.0 gasket should seal the outside area near the 4.0 head's trianguler jacket openings and you are probably home free.
There is plenty of presedence for this.
It really depends on the 4.2 block.
