: Ring And Pinion - Opinions
chris fresh 08-08-2006, 11:08 AM trying to decide what gear ration to go with, i've alway's ran 4:56's in my scout 2 with 35's and was happy, good on the highway, ran about 27 to 29 hundred at 70 mph. but now with my trail truck i'm running 42's and this truck won't see any street. i know that trans gear and t-case gears all matter but i don't know what those are either, can someone tell me off hand ? right now i'm running a 400 trans - stock with a 203 gear case witha 205 case - both are stock as well and the 42'' tsl's. i've heard of guy's running 5:13's with 42's but i'm sure it depends on the other factors as well, any info is greatly appriciated, i gotta order these things this week so i can get my front end back together
Brandon 08-08-2006, 11:46 AM pretty sure the 203 and 205 are both darn close to 2.0 so together that is 4.0. No idea on the tranny but if it won't see street I'd say 5.38's. You can go lower but they get pretty weak. Still with D44's and 42's??? eek
chris fresh 08-08-2006, 12:55 PM no d-44's i'm runnin a d- 60 front and a 14 bolt rear, rear is linchon locked and the front is gettin a detriot, gonna order the locker with the R/P along with 35 spline stubbs for the front and a matchin R/P for the rear.
sorry i didn't tell the axles in last post, all the info is in another post called my 800 build. check it out
binderbasher 08-08-2006, 01:50 PM If you have a 60, and 14 bolt on a off road only rig?
Go balls deep!
ihojeff 08-08-2006, 02:03 PM With a 14bolt you are limited to a 5.38 ratio as the lowest available. I would go with these or 5.13's with your 42's.

reuben 08-08-2006, 02:10 PM if you have a HP 60 you are limited to 5.13 as the lowest. go with them, thats what I run with my 44's and if I had a doubler it would be perfect.
5.38'S w/ 37's on my street / trail rig = perfect. (same as binderbound)
Back to stock ratio, I can start out easily in 2nd (as it should be)
I'm running around 3k at 70ish mph, just fine.
scout254 08-08-2006, 05:32 PM I'm running 4.88's with 40's and have both worlds. I can get up to highway speeds easly and yet have a nice low range when the Klune is in.
If your staying off road, then the 5.13 would be my choice.:D Remember they have a 5.13 THICK gear also(depends on your carrier), and you need the (4 pin, 2 piece, std case) in the 14 bolt(10.5") for the Detroit softlocker.
Detroit part # 225s-10

chris fresh 08-08-2006, 08:00 PM thanx guy's, i'm gonna go with the 5:13's, i've heard good things and you guy's confirmed it, just gotta get the order in tomorrow,it's gonna be an expensive day...ouchhhh!!!! on the pocket, the 14 is already welded up from the p.o. so all i need is the locker for the 60, also any recomendations on who to get inner seals from for the 60?
thanx again

chris fresh 08-09-2006, 07:08 PM awsome i'm gonna check um out, because the order never got put in today, and i would rather go thru a small guy anyway, keep it in the family thing, any one have a link or a number for him? thanx
chris fresh 08-09-2006, 07:10 PM never mind, just looked up and saw it, whatta dick!
Bindernut 08-09-2006, 09:42 PM Who is the dick? Jeff's not a dick. Are you a dick?
....maybe *I* am the dick?
ogrescout 08-09-2006, 09:51 PM I would go with the 5.13's. Since you are rocking an auto tranny you will be rolling fine with the 42's and a doubler. Guy at work rocks 350/350/205 with 5.13s and loves it.
chris fresh 08-10-2006, 01:37 PM bindernut.....definitly meant i was the dick for not lookin above before i asked for a link, i would never call someone a dick, especialy since i have never even met the guy and all i heard is great things about him, by the way......your not a dick either.as far as we know.

 :D OK, I see what you meant now. I seriously just couldn't be sure I correctly understood your reference! Oh, and you're right, I'm not a dick either. :grinpimp: ...even though you are!!:flipoff2:
