i was reading fourwheeler the other day,and ray currie listed axlex from the weakest to strongest. here they are

dana30
dana35
amc20
dana44reverse rotation
dana44/gm12 bolt
currie high pinion9in
9in
dana 60 reverse rotation
dana60
dana70/gm14 bolt

why is the reverse rotation weaker? from my own experience, and many others, the reverse rotation is stronger, whats up with this?

well it depends on location right? they reverse is weaker in the back and stronger in the front, if used in the correct location then they are pretty much a wash for ring and pinion strength.

I don't know about Land Cruisers, but Land Rovers fall first in line (that is prior to the d30).

seems pretty acurate if you are talking about the rear only

Some of the Jeep C101s had a rear 30.

You have never seen a stock Zuk axle, it could be mistaken for a steering shaft.:)

Smaller than a rover CV. Is that possible? Well maybe the zuk axles hold up as those vehicles seem to be made of recycled tuperware. hmmmm.....

My favorite is the rover splines, so course you could cut yourself. If I remember correctly, my buddy Will's rover had 5 spline axles.

In the old days, when we swapped out a front 25 or 27 for a 30, the rear C101s were a good find in the junk yards because a lot of them had Power Loks.

All of the Kaiser Jeepsters had 30's in the rear - with tapered axles. I still have the posi 30 in my 68 and I flog the shit out of it. Of course I just happen to have a 9 inch in the garage for when the 30 commits suicide

That chart is leaving out alot of axles but as far as the amc 20 goes, if you are talkingabout stock form then I think that it should be up there with the weakest. It is amzing how fast those 2 piece shafts go. I have had 2 friends blow theres on the street. :nuke: :D HAHAHHA! what shiaaaat!

but I will give you that they hold up alright with the one piece shafts. just seems like throwing good money after bad. Kind of like when I put ring and pinion and a locker in my dana 35. Oh how hind sight is 20/10.
