I don't really know what to search for to see if this has been covered before.

I went to part out a friends 87 rrc. I noticed the front diff had a large solid wheel attached to it at the two bolt holes nearest the driveshaft.
I just figured it was an aftermarket piece designed to help the diff roll over obstacles. He had a second third member that he gave me that had the same wheel on it. Both of us bought our trucks second hand, so we have no clue if its a stock part or not....and I don't think I've ever been under a stock range rover to know if this is an oem part.

Just curious about it more than anything.

I took mine off my old discovery. Within a week it needed a valve job, then my ex rear ended a pathfinder. Soon after it was flooded in a stream. Next, I noticed abnormally high tire wear on my D90. Finally, and worst of all, it made the camel trophey stickers on the truck fade.

That's the 'Ice-Wheel'. It's important for severe winter driving.

Take it off and send me the two bolts that are holding it on.

Seriously.

Don't take any notice of these guys. They don't know nothing. It's just a spare engine mounting with an iron protection guard.
Bill.

Ahhh Bill!!!

Now you've let the secret out.... I used mine once, over by the grocery store and desparate to get home, I pulled out the air grinder and in a mere 8 hours ground away the protive steel an viola! I could then change my motor mount.. They work on the tranny too...
Does anyone know if there is NAPA cross or is it a dealer only part?

Shit......I thought that was the sensor for the DCAS (Differential Crunch Avoidance System)

I've adjusted mine several times and it never seemed to work right:flipoff2:
