: Where would you mount a recovery point?

So,

This is actually bothering me. I really can't find a good place for a recovery hook, shackle, ect. Should I put it on the rear axle? Where on the rear do you think is strong enough? The rear is 2in .120 wall tubing with a 1/4 L bracket welded to it. I was thinking of plateing the bottom of the rear frame with 1/4 and welding a shackle mount to it. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks

I would reinforce your tube rear frame (I like to overbuild stuff) and then weld it on to the rear.

Also, thanks for inspiring me to do the comp cut and stretch, how are you liking the 2-3" up travel in the rear of your truck?

Sweet,

Giving me a little credit for that awesome job you did is fine by me! :smokin: I actually run about 5-6in uptravel with a .5 bumpstop. I just drop the rear to fit the truck in the garage.

How would you reinforce the tube? Just more plate?

Yes, a small d ring tacked to the rear axle is the best point. Don't put a good bead on it as the heat will reduce the integrity of the axle. :D

HAHA Very funny :flipoff2: I was thinking maybe on the truss.

Weld a dring to the rear axle truss. Not the best solution, but it will work just fine. Ohh, and why does that last pic look so funny. The A-arm looks funky

I don't know. It does look funny though. The link is mostly straight. Maybe the angle of the pic.

yeah - looks like there is more beef holding the axle to the frame than the rear cage to the frame ... in your case, i'd mount to the truss as you've already mentioned and use it sparingly.

might be an advantage to get a pull on the axle centerline and not worry about compressing the suspension during recovery  just thinkin' outloud

If you are going to pull from the tube frame, I'd ad some cross bracing first off under the rear bed, and gussets and bracing run to the frame. I'm assuming your tube frame is tied into the cage (I can't really tell from the pics), if not you might want to do that too. I would also weld your attachment point to both the 2" main tube and your tub channel, of course gusseting as appropriate.

You can't see it in the pics but the cage around the rear ties into the rear tube frame in 4 places and then the tube frame ties into the stock frame in 4 places also. There is a mini cage on the inside that mounts the shocks. It's pretty beefy.

Thanks for the advise guys. I think I might go the madcow route, not sure yet.

Where ever you decide to put it, make sure you plan ahead so its not in the way when you mount you trucknuts. :flipoff2:
