Guys, I have a two stick set-up but am evaluating alternate solutions like maybe cable but want something very reliable...thought about pneumatic but unsure....anyone? Lil'Jon

If you did it cable operated, wouldn't you have to make two cable controllers? One of the front driveshaft engagement and one for the high/low operation.

You could probably setup a electrical solenoid mechanism. Although, if you ever crossed through a deep water crossing, you would be up a creek. No pun intended.

That would be cool.. my front d/s lever is way forward and on the passenger's side, and can be a real pain to get into 2wd...

I know the guy that did mine has modified it, and put the sticks side-by-side, making it far easier to get to... Are you wanting to do yours just for kicks, or some requirement? Sounds cool regardless, but there are few things as reliable as a good ol stick with a rod into the t-case.

Probably a $10,000 dollar option on one of BTB's $150,000 cruisers. Interesting idea though.

I used a cable to shift into 4WD for a few years now, it works ok, shifts in good but you have to unlock the hubs to get out.
This is why I am going to a manual shifer real soon!!

I'm With Dcruiser on this one. Mine can be a real sonobitch to get into and outta gear. I had a buddy run cables(half assed attempt) 'cuz it was easier after he doubled with a 203. Didn't work very well and he wound up fabbing up some links and levers. The selonoid(sp) thing is kinda cool but lever beat buttons any day in my world.

Whay ya doin it?

I'm in the process of thinking a way to convert my vacum shift to manual, it has a crack all the way through the vaccum soliniod bell, and i dont like vaccum shift...
i think im going to drill a hole in the case, facing forward, and just run a rod from a shifter into it, whala! manual shift. this is all in theory though;)

whats this? is coyote Lil'John?

No Coyote is Matt and Lil John is JJ stone....its just that JJ is fairly inovative and I knew he was going this way for some time...my idea was to make something like what klune uses...I have the levers but with my four point harness on sometime its a struggle to get my fat ass to reach the levers...its a stretch.....

Come on now everyone knows BTB uses a special diamond dust/gold coating on all of their parts to keep their customers satisfied. They do it strictly for the customer to complement their prompt shipping, excellent service, and that friendly fellow who answers their phone.

Kind of you to say that... I prefer the less politcally correct: "Off his rocker" though :p

And you are correct, I have had a cable pull on my list for quite a while(3 years). And I'll throw you a little info on this.

My first "thought" was to use a cable from an automatic gear box floor shifter conversion kit. I didn't find an easy way to get a "knob" pull out on the cable I bought :(

My current idea is to get one made from somewhere like CableCo (http://www.pto.net/cableco/index.html). But, this route will cost about $100 a cable... and getting the measurements right will be critical.

Back to your regular programming,
John

that picture looks a whole lot more complicated than what it really needs to be though. You could just run a couple of air solenoids to shift it in and out. It looks like they must use some springs on the rod so that it doesn't force it right in. Like someone mentioned earlier, while it might be hard to shift the case in and out, if you used something strong enough, you might snap something as you're shifting into four wheel drive...just a thought....

Any body got a pic of there twin stick setup? On a sm420?
Near as I can figure Im gonna have four levers pokin out of my floor board, one for the ranger, one for the SM420 and two for the T-case! Man that's a lot of holes!

Thanks,
