My friend has a 1991 cr250 and i find it really slow. is this just a honda? i like low end power. then i rode my fiends 1993 xr600 and it is so fast but it can be a bitch to start, and is heavy, but i like the 4 stroke power, does anyone think that I should go for a 1985 ish xr500 to even it out because i don't want to spend to much. which bike do u guys think, an xr600, xr500 or 250 2 stroke, i will be riding a lot of logging roads and tight trails and not to much track. I want to spend about 1500 cnd or 1000 us on a bike.

Hey Pitter, "myself" I'm partial to the XR400's.:D There are a lot out there with 440 kits in them as well. If you can find one with a pumper carb, an Aloop kit, and a stabilizer you'd have a really great bike. :smokin:

I have pictures and an e-mail address for a nice one for sale if your interested? I just decided to go new.

Good luck and have fun!

Later.

I vote either the old 350, or 500. All of these are XR's of course!

Ride a CR500 from 87 and up, you will not be disapointed

I am still thinking or a 4 stroke, just because of the low end power an because i can't afford a newer 2 stroke, and i h8 mixing gas, more because the price of oil is so expensive now:mad:

For your price range I would go with a xr 350. I have had a xr500 and is was fun but a pig. A newer xr600 would be fine but out of your price range. Right now I am running a 94 rmx250 and it is great. Just bought is this year and had it up in the mountains last weekend. I paid 2300 CAN. for it from a friend and for trail riding it would be hard to beat unless you are looking for a newer 4stroke that was made in the last couple of years.

XR350's are slow and hard to find
XR400's are slow and out of your price range
XR600's are OK and out of you rprice range (you really thought they were fast compared to a 91 CR250??)

I agree with the guy who said get an old CR500 (mid to late 80's were the fast ones) if thats not fast enough for you there is something wrong with it or you are crazy.

I'm with you on that! When I was looking at bikes, I test rode a xr500. It seemed ok until I test rode an 87 CR250. The 250 came home with me. I have some friends with various XR's and a couple of YZ426F's,and they all like to take turns on the 'smoker'. My CR will keep up with the YZ's, and it was about $5k less. If you think your friends CR250 is slow, there is something wrong with it, or you don't know how to ride a 2 stroke. I looked at a few 500cc strokes, but they are just insanely fast!

I use my CR for trails (lots of loose rocks and hills) here in arizona, something that the 4 strokes are actually a little better suited for, but the little bit of extra work in that stuff is well worth the 'seat of the pants' acceleration when I hit the hard packed stuff, plus my right leg isn't twice the size of my left from kicking one of those big suckers over. Think about how you are going to ride and look at your choices from there.
