my buddy HAS a 91 2wd 4.0 auto ranger, he found a cheap 87 4wd 2.9 manual one, whats needed to swap the 4.0 into the 87? are the motor mounts the same? would he be able to use the flywheel and clutch stuff from the 2.9 on the 4.0? ill think of more questions later

your in luck the 2.9 and the 4.0 is a really good swap and I think everything lines up. just thought of more, arent 4wd and 2wd oil pans different or something? from what i read it should be a kinda easy swap since the motor mounts are the same. the reason for the swap is he wants 4wd and the cheap 4wd one he found has motor probs. the guy wants 800 obo, i was thinkin of offering like 500. is it worth it? another reason is the 2wd hes got has a bent frame:eek:

I think you should do it the 4.0 has much more power and torque then the 2.9 ecpecally if you lift it and put bigger itres you will want the 4.0, I wish mine had the 4.0 or I wouldnt be s[ending my summer and all my $$$ on a 5.0.

well i printed the first one you posted and we are gonna try and convince his parents, yesterday his mom said if he will take 500 ill pay for it but today they changed there minds and they are leaving for a few days:mad:

yeah you can use all the clutch parts, but you will probably want the 4.0L clutch anyway. i run a 4.0L clutch on a 2.9L engine, works good. the swap isnt as easy as it looks though. the electrical wiring is sort of complicated. if your interested in having the electrical done for you, let me know, i will get you in touch with the best guy out there. he builds a bunch of these harnesses, in fact, he's finishing up mine. ask your questions, i will help answer any i can.

how much is your harness gonna be when hes done? it doesnt look like this is gonna happen:(
