When you're doing really hairy sh!t would you say you crash a lot or minimally. I gave up crashing :D Seriously...I raced motocross for the better half of my life and towards the end age 14 I shattered my knee cap (cased and the handle bars crushed my knee cap into the dirt) still finished some how. Same jump Mcrath destroyed his back at in Southwick, MA.

Anyways from then on I've only crashed a hand full of times. I still do just a hard stuff I just stopped crashign somehow.

List some of your cooler MTB crashes:

I was at northstar doing downhill on a borrowed bike (full downhill foes) Well I was ripping down the hill out of control cause I had always had a hard tail w/ only a couple inches up front previous to this ride. So here I am on 6-8" of travel f/r. Hell I thought I was on an dirt bike...well I was ripping down a bowl and they had that orange fence netting that funneled the bowl off to a single track that was impossible to make at 50mph and was too steep to slow at all. Well the orange netting was only one sqaue thick (like caution tape but unbreakable) and it was mounted on PVC pipe which was slid over 4 feet of rebar. Well I had no good options cause it came so fast so I tried to make the turn...and BAMMMMMMMMMM It hit my arms and slapped them behind me then hit my chest and walked right up to my neck...i did a gainer onto my stomach wrapped in the net. I bent 6 pieces of rebar 45 degrees and took it with me about 30 feet from the rebar! Woke up 5 mins later....OUCH! rode down the hill and it sucked...still had to drive home. It was right before school started and that's where the name sillyneck came from. It was purple w/ sqaure shapes half way around. That should have killed me but I was fine for some reason.

I never once crashed my Clark kent and I raced it for 2 years and was always in teh top 5 sport class.

I have crashed my FSR once. I was riding at 2 am up here in chico (before I live here) w/ my sunglasses on PISS DRUNK (I can still wheelie great when I can't even walk) and I was messing around down town and I hit a big blue mail box when I was trying to clear a trash can off a curb. Tagged the box and got tossed into the road in front of a good 3k people :D it was cool. My glasses fell off and all of a sudden i could see. That was nuts..I just thought it was really dark out :D

That was 2 years ago and I haven't crashed since.

crashed on my Road bike on Monitor pass during the death ride.

It was one of those uneventfull 50 mph two wheel drift off the side of the road into a rock wall.
I guess I took the corner a little too fast. Good thing I didn't go down when I was going 70+ hopping the cattle grates.

I picked up my bike dusted myself off and continued on down the hill very slow to the rest stop where they were dispatching the ambulance to get me. I guess they saw me go down and decided whoever it was must have been really fawked up now.

I ended up giving up the ride with only one more pass to complete. My hip was spasiming and cramping from the crash.

AH mountain bike crashes I am the king of endoing off single track trails and falling down 5 to 15 ft into creek beds and ravines :D

Still recovering from Poison Oak from my last ride.

70+ mph? Yeah right. I've been fairly close to that speed and I could barely hang on. You know my riding history so don't say something stupid. :flipoff2:

Paul,

74 mph is what my max speed was at the bottom of the back side of monitor pass. The guys I was riding down with all had logged a max speed very close to mine. Figured it had to be fairly accurate.

My computer was pretty damn accurate as far as I know.

I didn't have any problem hanging on, but it was pretty damn scary and my adrenalin had me shaking for a bit at the rest stop at the bottom of the hill.

Good thing I didn't hit a cow like the lady we saw on our way back up.
She was way fawked up broken pelvis and femur and lots of other stuff:eek:

When I was young and riding in Santa Babara:rasta: , I would crash almost every ride. I'd laugh it off and hop back on. I really didn't care if I was going to make it through a rough spot. I'd just go for it.

When I broke my femur at 30 years old (moto cross:vader2: ), I mellowed out a ton. I still ride the good trails, but I pay attention to my limits more.

Lately, I have been looking at down hill bikes and I wonder if I still have it in me to race.

i tend to not crash hard, but there is at least one time every ride where i dont make the gap, dont make the corner, miss the landing, or do something stupid. like last night, i was doing nose wheelies as fast as i could on the grass, and i thaught i had it, my friend said it looked like i was gonna fawk something up... he was right, didnt get hurt, but i nocked the wind out of me.

Best crash, Well ok I have two.

One we were riding in santa cruz mountains someplace the trail was almost vertical, pumping rear brakes to just control it you know that kind of shit..

Well 5 of us made it down no problem.. make it to a wide open flat fire road and what the hell do I hit? a freaken tree root.. Right over the bars landed on my chest..

Second one was in northstar.. MAD down hill race between 10 of us(annual group trip) make it down into a single track, hit second place, right at the end theres this little jump, I launch and land so hard I did an endo, My clipless didnt let go untill I was fully faceplanted, I looked up and just saw my bike coming for my head, Pointed my helmet at the bike and cracked it .. Stood up dusted off, Bandaged the 1 inch deep gouge in my leg and drove home, Took a hot ass shower scrubbed the gravel out of my legs and ass..

Man did that one hurt. But I won 50 bucks for second. and best crash of the trip

your Question... Do you guys crash a lot?

answer. No.

I wrecked one time. When I didn't listen to myself and listened to my friends.
After a long day of riding singletrack (not downhill). I was fully on the JAZ! No matter what I did. It worked. Up, down, over. Simply perfect day. Up untill we were taking a shortcut back to the trucks.

We cut threw a parking lot and were going to ride down a small hill covered with grass. (VERY EASY) yep it was too easy for me on that day.
So I say, Hey I am going to ride down this flight of stairs..
My friends (all 3 of them) say. "NO, youll kill yourself."
Then they tell me to ride down next to the steps, not on the steps.

Well they convince me to ride down next to the steps. and just as I reach the bottom of the drop. I hit a 4 foot ditch that had grown in with very high weeds and grass. It had been fully camoflauged by the high grass and I didn't see it in time.
Front tire went in and I went over the bars.
SHATTERED 3 bones in my left hand, needed surgery and pins.

I dont listen to my friends any more. :D

But that was my only crash. I really dont wreck. I have a habbit of pulling off the impossiable on my MT bike. "GT LTS 1"
