I just finished a rebuild of a Dana 44 from a 1987 XJ for use in my 1990 YJ. I included in the build, Superior's Super 44 kit. The flange has the option of changing from the 5-4.5 to 5-5.5 bolt pattern. does anyone know of a direct replacement drum that will work on the XJ axle? It has the 10" drums. I am changing the pattern to match a E.B. Dana 44 that is going in within the next two weeks. If you don't know of a drum that fits the XJ axle, does anyone have an opinion about re-drilling the XJ drum to match the pattern? Thanks!

You can try some CJ drums, but I think they mostly came in 11" drums. But and older cj d44 whould all be interchangeable backing plates and so on.
But I dont know for sure, never done any drum brake swaps:D :D
The shitty part is. CJ 44 drums are stupidly fawkin expensive. If you can find a way to swap a better, more affordable set up on there, try and do that.
We spent a small fortune rebuilding my freinds 75 cj front and rear drums.
good luck

I did the 5 on 4.5 to 5.5 and simply drilled out the drums. Save yourself a bunch of dough on the way.

thanks guys...yeah I think drilling the drums will be my solution for now.
I posted another thread but maybe one of you might know...I am installing an XJ Dana 44 and with a spring over and moving the axle back an inch (used M.O.R.E. perches) my left side e-brake cable is too short. Know of any other donor cables that might work here?
