While trying to install the PCV valve, I popped the PCV gromment down into the intake on my newly rebuilt Buick 231 - Stupid I know. Can anyone sugget were the grommet may have ended up before I start taking things apart?

Not too familiar with the 231, but if you're lucky, it's sitting inside the intake manifold.

It's either in the intake or stuck in one of the valves, or, if you're really unlucky, in the cylinder. I hope you haven't run it since it went in there. if so, it's probably melted to one of the valves or sidewall of the cylinders.

A trick I've used to get things out of engines - duct tape 2 feet of rubber hose to a shop vac and stuff it down the intake. A lot of times that will get it out.

Good call on the Vac trick. I'll give that a try tonight after I drain the oil. Could you imagin how ticked-off the old lady would get if I sucked up a few quarts of 10-30W into the $500 Kirby.

For God sakes man, don't use a kirby in the garage... go to the local ***Mart and buy a wet-dry vac for $40.

I found the grommet. Firstly, my original post may have been misleading. My 231 has the PCV valve located on the intake manifold next to the EGR port (generally they are located on a valve cover). The grommet did not fall into the combustion part of the intake. It fell into the area underneth the intake manifold between the the heads. While trying to retrieve it, I bought the largest shop-vac that Walmart had (3.5hp) and tried to such it out - no luck. I had to pull the intake manifold to find the grommet.

So far I've ruined two grommet and one PCV valve while trying to install the damm thing - with the intake manfold off. The PCV valve fits very tightly into the grommet. I remember distroying the original PCV valve while removing it when I tore down the motor for a rebuild.

Call me a retard, but I think i'll take the the intake and PCV stuff to a shop and have them install it.

the shop vac was a good idea, I have used my 6.5 hp to get shit out of the intake b4.

try rubbing alcohol or hair spray on that. aqua net works great, very slippery but it dries quickly and will glue it in ;)

I gave into temptation and tried to install the PCV valve myself for one last time. Following Kidwired's advice, I put some of my old lady's mousse (Aussie Mage Hold) onto the grommet then put a socket over the PCV valve and with one tap of the BFH it popped in.

Live and learn.
