: Who is running coilovers?
AKRover 08-12-2006, 09:19 PM I was just going to run some tall coils in my Range Rover but I found a good deal on some Fox 2.0 coil-overs and I am considering using those instead. The only thing I am worried about is the length, they are 18 inch travel. I also need to figure out what spring rates I need. The front has a bull bar and winch and the back will be loaded down pretty heavy on long trips. My coil-over experience is limited to installing a pair of 14 inchers on a cherokee a couple of years ago and I have forgot everything I learned.:shaking:
What length shocks, and what spring rates are you guys running?
Buckon37s 08-12-2006, 11:24 PM 14 fox in the front. 16in SAW in the back. IMHO 18in is way too long. Be prepared for the shocks to stick out through the hood or run stupid amounts of lift.
madcowdungbeetle 08-12-2006, 11:34 PM 16" SAW front and rear.
As far as I know, no one makes a 2.5" x 18" primary spring for those coilovers, which should make things rather interesting if you decide to go that route, especially on a heavily laden rover. I'd wait and get some 14's or 16's, it will make things much easier in the long run.

That's what I was afraid of, them poking through the hood. What size tire are you running with that combination?

39.5 Iroks. It's on a D90 though.
AKRover 08-15-2006, 12:56 PM 39.5 Iroks is what I would like to run.
Anyone care to guess what the corners of a 95 RR weigh? I don't feel like digging through the conex to find the scales right now.
I looks like I need to do some serious measuring to figure out if these will work or if I should just give up and stick with the original plan.

Just trade them in or sell them on ebay and pick up some 14's for the front. If you angle them you can easily get a ton of travel out of them. I can only imagine what it would be like to make all the steering work properly with 20+ inches of wheel travel up front. I am maxing out hiems right now with the 14's.
AKRover 08-15-2006, 09:50 PM I was thinking about just running limiting straps and waste a few inches of travel. The deal just fell through though but it's probably for the better. As much as I would like to build a custom set-up the idea of bolting on a 5" kit in an afternoon is very enticing.

Don't give up on the Coilovers! Just buy some get to work. Besides, won't a 5in lift on a RR fit like 35's with trimming?
AKRover 08-16-2006, 10:46 AM Ha, someone just offered me some new in the box SAW air shocks and they are 18 inch travel too. Does everyone just buy the longest ones they can get and then realize that they aren't going to work? I don't have any experience with these. How would they do on a daily driver? Not that it maters since they are still too long.
It's going to take me so long to build this rover that I might still go with some coil overs, maybe another good deal will come my way.
Buckon37s 08-16-2006, 07:39 PM Stay away from the airshocks. Your truck is way too heavy for them, and even if it weren't, they are a pain in the arse.

AKrover. If it takes till next summer to finish I 'll be up there to help you wheel it. That is if your on the Kenai Penn:flipoff2: Let me Know
AKRover 08-19-2006, 02:17 AM I'm sure it's going to take longer than next summer. I've had all of the parts except for a coupling shaft to do my LT230 swap sitting on my porch for the past six months and I don't plan on touching that any time too soon. The wife has been talking about that baby stuff recently too so I'm really screwed. ;)
The Peninsula is only a few hours away, for driving time in Alaska that's super close. I have a few wheeling buddies down there too. A lot of the really good wheeling is north of Anchorage anyway so I'm sure you'll make a trip or two up this way. I always look forward to meeting some new people.
FiveO Disco 08-19-2006, 01:40 PM AKrover, you live in the greatest state there is. I was up there last August for the silvers and didn't want to leave. My wife grew up in Dillingham but also lived on the penn. She was a great tour guide. We drove the Al-Can. That is a road trip like none other. I plan on being back very soon. We had property near Willow but got rid of it. I'm loooking at a place in Kasilof. Not sure if it will work out.
