I have found an old propane tank and have converted it into an air tank. It is not one of the trade in tanks used for bbq grills and such. It is the bigger aluminum type used on propane powered forklifts and such. I'm wondering how much pressure I can actually put in this thing(without incident). I've found nothing on the tank itself to give me an idea. Anybody out there familiar with them? Thanks.

A propane tank is rated for a lot more pressure than you are going to put in it from an air compressor.

What fittings did you use for your propane tanks? I have a couple of those I'd like to use for an OBA tank.

Thanks,

Al

I *think* the average propane tank is rated for up to 300psi. But, don't hold me to that.

Maybe try calling a local gas supply store?

vapor pressure of propane is 257 PSI at 130* F. The tanks need to be rated for at least that. 125 PSI from a compressor would be no problem. I've got 2 old BBQ tanks that I plan on converting to hold compressed air.
