I know there were lots of pics taken so post up! Tim from Crawl took over 2000 pics at this event so look for it in the next issue. Curious to hear how everyone else made out. Thanks to the guys who sold me some new sheetmetal for my Scout. I needed it! Now I just need to pull the motor out for a fresh rebuild and maybe some "other" mods.:smokin:

-Sudz 09-18-2006, 04:58 AM I got Big Boned by Big Dogs Offroad – I won the coveted top prize of a Ramsey RE12000 winch at Saturday night’s concert / giveaway. Not giving it a second thought, I threw it in the back of my truck. I opened it when I got home Sunday. To my surprise, inside was a used Warn M8000 with no hardware. I checked the calendar real quick to make sure it wasn’t April 1st
Fawking thing probably doesn't work either
Thanks Big Dog Productions, You Guys Suck!
I can’t wait ‘till next year :flipoff:
JamisonWorkshop 09-18-2006, 06:43 AM I wouldnt say you can blame Big Dogs for that, but there is someone to blame if that is actually the case. I will talk to Eugene and see what the deal is.
-Sudz 09-18-2006, 09:25 AM def sucks - I have a dozen witnesses from the event (including the 2 Big Dog Grand Slam trails guides - Bruce & Charlie) that were there when i opened the box and saw the Warn when I got back to my truck. At the time I thought, 'No Biggie, I got a Warn instead' - closed up the box until I got home last night. Took another look and it definitely appears like the Ramsey I won was "swapped" with this used Warn off of someone's rig - missing parts, etc...
Question is: Who keeps an eye on the booty for the giveaway? Staff members?
Whaley Enterprises 09-18-2006, 10:06 AM I just talked to eugene, he is going to call jon hunt about the winch. He said he hadn't looked in the box, but the winch was donated by a local vendor not ramsey, so hopefully they will make it right.
nasnut67 09-18-2006, 10:11 AM Sucks to hear about the winch. This weekend was alot of fun for me. It was nice not being really stressed for a few days. Thanks for all of the hospitality and hopefully I will have stickers next time.

Gee, thanks for airing your discontent in the court of public opinion without first trying to contact John Hunt about the problem and see what he has to say about it. You didn't get instantanous gratification to your problem so you go and post your side of what you think to be wrongdoing here.
In the 13+ years we have been having the events there have been a few problems but they have been worked out and people were left satisfied. It was an oversight and I am sure it will be corrected. Its just not being corrected instantaneously so you post here for whatever your reasons may be without any way for us at Big Dogs to offer any kind of explanation or to show you that there is a mistake and to attempt to correct it.
You bear some responsibility of the problem because you had a chance to correct it on Saturday night when you received the box containing the winch and opened it to find it was not what you had thought. You could have said your peace directly to John face to face and get his side that night but you waited to leave the event and then come here to voice your complants here, for everyone to see.
You said you opened the box, found out that its contents were not what was advertised, and appeared to accept that fact that the contents were different on Saturday night and then decided not to persue it until after you left the event and got home.
All parties of this problem should get what they expect. You should get what you belive you have won, and Big Dogs should not be falsely accused of being underhanded and have our good name being laid out there for people to speculate as they do without having the full story.
John Hunt does not frequent here and has no idea what is being said here and can't offer his side of the situation. With all the donations from sponsors it can be hard to properly inspect each and every item that is given for door prizes and mistakes can be made and to think that they are intentional, fabricated, or meant to deceive is just plain garbage.
There are many people on this problem and it is being looked at you will get a resolution. It may not be with the lightning speed of the Internet but you will get a resolution and it will be fair.
So give John Hunt the chance to correct the problem with a reasonable amount of time. The event has only been over for 2 days and I am sure that John Hunt will give this problem the proper time and attention and will work with you to get it resolved. And when he does, it would be proper to post messages here stating that it was done right and not leave others to speculate that you got 'Boned' By Big Dogs Offroad because that is NOT the case.
-Sudz 09-19-2006, 07:32 PM spoke to John personally on the telephone this evening - there is more to this story - hopefully it will get resolved
as i stated before, several attempts were made to contact him before I posted this here

more than likely John went on the word of the vendor, that it was a new winch. I am sure if it was looked at prior to the event it would not be raffled as a new winch. I have been going to big dogs events for six years now and this is the first time i have heard of this type of thing happening. Hope your problem gets resolved and to see you and everyone else next year.

Why would someone purposely give a broken used winch away as a new bigger one? That makes perfect sense! Lets see, they are probably laughing their asses off saying "That guy's prolly cussin us right now because we sure gave him the shaft!" It just doesnt work that way. Communication prolly wasnt the best between the vendor who donated it and Big Dog's which led to this. The winch was prolly replaced with a Ramsey 12000 so the old one was dropped in the new box. The guys said hey someone could still use this one so it got donated. If it's not working...FIX IT or give it to someone else! Quit whining about it.

Sudz....
If you BELIEVE that Big Dogs and John Hunt INTENTIONALLY misled and purposely did this to piss you off then the first thing you need to do is put it down and stop smoking that stuff. It's already ruined your brain.
The packaging is what threw EVERYONE Off. The box was looked at as a donation of a Ramsey winch by the external packaging.
I have no knowlege of what John Hunt and Eugene Rose knew or didn't know about this donation but I can assure you that they were accepting this as a donation from a sponsor of the event, not a vendor of a product and believed that they were getting something worthwhile to give out as a prize.
Many companies, large and small donate prizes to the Big Dogs June and September events and Big Dogs takes what is given in good faith and disburses them via the random name draw on Saturday night. Not every time is there a winch or some other large prize.
As I have stated before, You opened the box that Saturday night of the event and knew THEN what was in the box, you acknowledged that it wasnt a Ramsey winch and then shrugged it off. I guess you then went home and sobered up, and then decided that you weren't happy. You decided to bitch and complain here on the Pirate board and also the Big Dogs website about how you got BONED BY BIG DOGS without FIRST trying to contact John Hunt directly and inquire about the prize.
If you went to John on Saturday night John would have done everything in his power to find out the entire situation and do his best to resolve it to try and make you happy. The company that donated the winch, John, and yourself were within walking distance of each other.
Now that you are back home, John is home in Maryland and the Vendor here in Winchester Va. it makes it that much harder to try and get a resolution to this.
You can see by the messages posted here and on the Big Dogs website that sympathy is not on your side and many feel that you are attacking John Hunt and the rest of the Big Dogs unjustly. You should be trying to let John and the company that donated it work with you to see what can be done for you.
I'm not saying that you were given a box full of broken parts and then everyone sat around and laughed about it. That is surely not the case but John and the company that donated it will be less likely to want to help you resolve the situation if you have a bad attitude and make claims that you were given the shaft INTENTIONALLY and try to gather public opinion against the Big Dogs.
Look at the situation as the 'glass is half full', not 'half empty'.
In the end it probably wont be a Ramsey 12500 winch but you will end up with a working Warn 8000 that if you don't wish to use, you can sell it and put something in your pocket. Your name could have not been drawn at all and you could have gone home empty handed.
The circumstances surrounding this prize are unfortunate and if you are patient it will get resolved.
If you are so dissatisfied with things that you don't want a resolution, all you want to do is complain, post here and everywhere about how you got the shaft then I will drive to your house, pickup the winch and rid you of all the hassles associated with it and you can continue to waste your breath complaining and nothing will be done for you.

DOUG38S 09-23-2006, 10:14 AM The amount of childness involved around our hobbie lately makes me want to vomit.
Between sissy ass people bitching about nothing that they got for free, childness pranks with pellet guns that hurt people, somone stealing my KGB sweatshirt at the mudhole(let me catch you and your fucking face will hurt for weeks), and the amount of disrepect that I saw for the cove grounds(trash, litter, etc) I would be happy if it was just a club affair and the rest of tool bags stayed at home.
Next year let me catch someone acting like a dumbshit down at bigdogs and their ass is mine. I'm usually a really nice guy that is laid back and doesnt want a confrontation but people are ruining my good time with friends and I wont nor will the KGB's tolerate it.

-Sudz 09-29-2006, 08:36 AM I got a knock on my front door last night at around 10:45 p.m. It was pouring rain outside. (I live just north of Trenton, NJ – 32 miles east of Philadelphia, PA)
It was John Hunt!
I thought to myself either this guy is crazed or he’s an extremely passionate fella. John was here to deliver a new winch to replace the one I received at the Main Jambo. John made good on his promise to make sure I didn’t walk away from the Big Dogs ride feeling like I got screwed. He also stayed in touch via telephone during the last 2 weeks.
Shortly after I got home from Cove, a couple of attempts to reach John by phone and email were unsuccessful. Feeling shafted, I hastily resorted to posting my discontent here and on the Big Dogs forum. In hindsight, that was a bad decision and certainly not deserved by John or the Big Dogs crew.
Kudos to John for being a standup guy and going WAY beyond the norm to mend an unpleasant situation. I still can’t believe he drove from his home near Baltimore, MD (after work) to Winchester, VA (to pickup the winch) then drive it north to deliver it personally! On top of that, he had a 2 hour + drive home! WOW
John, my apologies for not giving you ample time to respond. Lesson learned and hopefully this won’t tarnish BDO’s good reputation and track record.
Thanks Again…
-Sudz
BTW, I did have a helluva good time at GSE ‘06 (first time BDO attendee) and met a bunch of great folks.

Maybe the next event that you attend you will give the folks the benefit of the doubt and allow ample time to resolve a situation before providing a 'knee jerk' reaction to a situation and blasting it out over the Internet.
John works hard, many times well over 40 hours a week and has a family commitments and on top of that spends lots of time to organize the events because he enjoys doing it. He didn't get right back to you, but he DID call you back and he fixed it. "Big Dogs" isn't a profit making venture, that is for sure. Many people donate their time and effort to put on an event like this and no one is paid for it.
Again I will say that you should have gone to John on Saturday night or Sunday morning and you would have had your answers and a lot less anxiety over the whole situation.
This situation has already conjured up lots of rumors and speculation that we are 'Bad People' from those who don't have all the facts to the situation, don't know the "Big Dogs" and don't come back to this thread and read your postings that it was resolved. They will walk away with misinformation in their heads and the rumors and speculation will continue.
Diesel fuel costing what it does, John could have mailed it to you and asked you to send back the other one but John doesnt work that way. He needed to know it was done right, you were taken care of and he could do it face to face. You don't put on an event for over 13 years and have it last by doing people wrong.
I and many others are ticked that this whole thing ballooned up the way that it did. It didn't have to be.
Use you head for something besides some place to hang your ballcap next time. Learn from it so that the next time you feel you have been wronged you will go to the source before venting here.
KGB Prez 09-29-2006, 04:18 PM Very well said. But also would like to thank sudz for comming back and letting everyone know that John Hunt went Above and Beyond what was nessassary to resolve this problem. Hopefully, this won't happen again.:D :D

Yeah, you dont seem smart enough to think that there may have been some type of misunderstanding. Like Big Dogs would actually lie to all the people at an event just to give away a broken winch! STFU!:flipoff2: We were all over his ass because he posted a few hours (if that)after he called. The first post was on Monday at 8 AM! That doesnt seem like alot of time to get things straight. However, I do applaud the guy for his last post and look forward to wheeling with him in the future.
crawlmag 09-30-2006, 06:10 PM I've been around the offroad industry my entire life and spend 100 hours a week working as a magazine editor in the offroad industry, ie. I know fawking EVERYONE, even this slipscomb fag, hell I've slept on his couch and drank his Jack and he molested me when i was sleeping :flipoff2: , and I can honestly say John Hunt is one of the coolest, most laid back and hard working guys I have ever met in offroad. And that is saying alot compared to Shannon Campbell, Lil Rich and guys like that. John loves this stuff and seems like a great guy.
I'll be back at the Spring event for sure.
CB87YJ 09-30-2006, 06:25 PM ,,,,, and he molested me when i was sleeping ,,,,,,,.
I call bullshit on that one.
more like you were awake, knew what was happening, decided "creepy but nice" and let him do it, while pretending to be asleep.
how would you have known if you were sleeping?:flipoff2:
I am also happy the guy wrote the conclusion for all to see.
Personally, I woulda started a new thread too,,,,just to be sure the word got out.

See ya in the Spring Cow Fucker!:flipoff2:

crawlin'YJ 10-01-2006, 10:03 AM The amount of childness involved around our hobbie lately makes me want to vomit.
I haven't been down to a Big Dogs event in a couple years, and I'm starting to think its for the better. The stories I hear after the events keep me from going back down there. It has turned into one big frat party with a bunch of immature people doing stupid shit. I'd rather wheel elsewhere and not have to put up with all the crap. The wheeling itself is awesome there, but I'd rather not have to deal with all the B.S. :smokin: Someone stealing your sweatshirt is ridiculous, that sucks to hear how low people can be.

Sounds like you need to expand on the number or type of people you talk to. Most of the stories I hear as well as my own experiences for the past few years have been very satisfying. There are places on the campgrounds where you can get stupid in your own camp but most of us just relax and enjoy the weekend and meet some great people. So it sounds like it would be your loss if you don't come back.

DOUG38S 10-01-2006, 06:52 PM Yeah dont get me wrong. One weird weekend there doesnt mean its the end of the world.
crawlin'YJ 10-01-2006, 07:46 PM Yeah dont get me wrong. One weird weekend there doesnt mean its the end of the world.
Totally understand. Couple events ago I heard some people were drinking and stuff on the trail, and now this. I've always had fun there when I went, don't get me wrong. The last time I went was for the KGB Benefit run there for one of their members. It was one of the better events I've been to at the Cove. I'm sure I'll go back again at some point, just this negative stuff I've heard/read makes me a little apprehensive for the money I'd be spending. lol
:smokin:
badassjeepguy 10-01-2006, 09:22 PM Doug, i think it was a great weekend... it always gets a little goofy on saturday evenings.... but the pellet incident was some bullshit that was ended quickly, i had your back as others did too. im really sorry bout your sweat shirt... i ummm wiped my ass with it :flipoff2:
anyone considering a Big Dog event, go it wont be regreted...
John HUnt is definately a stand up guy, and im personally glad to see him in charge
DOUG38S 10-02-2006, 11:12 AM The sweatshirt saga has ended. I punked the fool who took it and he now calls me daddy. Let that be a lesson to all the fawk with the KGB :flipoff2:
