: Metal buildings in the IE

Does anybody in Riverside or San Berdoo counties have any experience with a local metal building supplier or contractor? I suppose they don't have to actually be local as long as they build to code here in Rivco. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experiences with local contractors who have put up their buildings, or if they've purchased it and put it up themselves. Any and all insight, leads, recommendations, good-guy hookups, etc are appreciated.

I did one in menifee, the building was from United steel I would not recomend them to anyone unless you want to have a hassle and the building be 2 months late ariving. Once it did get here I put it up in 2 weeks working weekends and nights. I only had help for the first weekend then it was me and my kids. Th building was complete and easy to put up and plan check was easy it just took forever. the Murrieta office of the RCBD wanted alot of extra engineering and I just had a local guy do it. United steel wanted thousands to do it I got it done for around $800 by the local guy. If you are looking for cheap and fast call Borga buildings they do OK. If you wnat a custom and well built building give this guy a call. Tom Harlin 951 334 3514. tell him the jeep guy down the street gave you his #.

Hey Wayne could I come by and check out your building some time? I work in Perris, just up the road from you. How big is your building? I checked out Borga's website, I'll probably fill out their quote form. The guy down the street that you recommended, is he just an erector or does he build them from scratch? Why didn't you use him if he's just down the street? I'm a cheap bastard so I'll probably be looking into putting it up myself like you did.

I have one from these guys and it is a high quality building and lowest price out there.

They will deliver it to your site on time and it is a breeze to assemble.

Yeah I've already been to their website (great website by the way) and filled out their online quote form. After I hit send up comes a message saying they wouldn't quote a building for my county (Riverside, CA) because it was one of only about a half dozen counties around the country that require too much engineering. I thought it was kind of odd that they didn't just still offer to do it but factor in the cost of the extra engineering for my county. But instead I got that message that basically said they're not interested in my business.

I did not use Tom because he was busy at the time and his prices reflect his need for the work. He builds the moment frames custom and then orders sheeting and trim from MacElroy in Hesparia and some other place as well.

Riverside co requires Certified welding and inspections by a special welding inspector plus a bunch of engineering that is tough for guys out of state to do. Borga and tom both do them in the county so they should be able to help ya.

Good luck with a red-iron building in San Berdo Co. It is a PITA. Besides the building code be sure to check with the fire dept - many areas require that you be within 350' of a fire hydrant - or you may have to put in one in or install sprinklers in all structures.

As for the building I went with a Versa Tube (www.versatube.com) building. Got it from Noahs Protective Sturctures out of El Cajon - the ONLY honest vendor I have dealt with.
Do lots of home work before you hand over any $.

You'll pay a premuim, but you'll get what you pay for:

Mine's in Riverside, all to code.

Hey Reflexx and BlueCoyote, did you put your buildings up yourselves or have an erector put them up for you? What size did you guys get, and if you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for them? Reflexx, did you have much trouble with the engineering and permitting in Rivco? I've heard this county is more demanding on the engineering, so I'm wondering what to expect. Is the county building department easy to work with or are they like the DMV? Thanks for any insight you can provide.

You may not like their building styles, but I moved to FL 2 years ago from the IE (Yucaipa). I bought a building from SteelMaster out of Canada and the trucker that delivered it also delivered them to SoCal. SteelMaster had engineering plans that was approved by my local building inspectors which includes hurican rating. I have the "A" type and like it.

Thanks Jesse. Yeah I'm not too hip to the quonset hut from an aesthetic viewpoint, but it all boils down to money in the end. Are those any cheaper than a typical steel framed building? Thanks for any info.

Its hard to say what will be cheaper. It comes down to the salesman and the timing. At that point in time, it worked out cheaper for me. It came with certified engineering building plans and that was a big help since it had to have a 'cane rating. Sometimes these companies will have a building that someone ordered and then backed out on. Those can be purchased at a savings.

Erected the building ourselves - very east to do - just took some time, ladders and a good screw gun. Engineering passed the first time with NO revisions. Had to do the building in 2 stages. Steel framing was ~$3600, sheet metal was ~$2500 (but this was for 30x50 with lots left over - long story), slabs were ~$3200, used doors for now. Will PM you a pic next week.

Dusty,

Miracle steel supplied all the prints I needed. I still had to get a "foundation" blueprint, beacuse of RivCo demands. I think that applies to all buildings.
Here's a whole bunch of info on my build:
