: Spidertrax 9 with lightweight 60 outers

This is a brand new axle...not a single scratch on it. I was originally going to build a rear engine buggy...building a front so the diff is on the wrong side. It is currently setup for a rear motor with a flipped 3rd, but can EASILY be made a standard passanger side drop front by changing 4 holes. I can fill and redrill it for you.

Specs

Spidertrax housing with their new lighweight knuckles. 64.5" wms.
I chose this width because it was a mix and match with axle lengths. This uses off the shelf 60 inner shafts

It comes with complete steering.
2.5" chrome bling bling PSC ram mounted with Aurora rod ends. Steering is complete and setup by Spidertrax.

Brakes
Wilwood 4 piston calipers, billet cross drilled rotors, custom brackets, aluminum hats.

This axle is 5 on 5.5

Also...It will come with HAND MADE 300M stub shafts made by Jack at CTM. They are machined from a chunk of billet material, heat treated, cryoed, then the threads were anneiled and the shafts were magnafluxed. They are a fricken work of art! I have Yukon inners and CTM's with this setup. Like the axle these are all brand spanking new with zero miles on them.

I am also open to keeping stuff off this axle like the ram, CTM joints etc. as I am just gonna buy them again.

This is a complete axle with every bell and whistle you could possibly want. It is also the lightest front end you will ever find. Want more info...pick up this month's JP...its the axle in the article

are they standard length 12" outers or custom length? if they are standard length what are the lengths of your inners. I might be able to use these in my own 609 and keep my current set as spares. I'm interested to know what stock 60 you based the shafts on. I have the same width axle as you with about the same offset but its a drivers drop front engine. I might be able to use the same stock inners. If you are willing to separate these parts I'm interested.

CA_YJ
08-16-2006, 06:13 PM
The stubs are not your typical outer. Unless you are running dodge unit bearing outers you can't use the stubs. I will take measurements of the inners tomorrow.

I could seperate, but chances are you aren't going to be able to use these the axle shafts.

So this is the lighter, smaller version?
Is there any kind of warranty on the knuckles?
How much do those outers run?
Are you screwed if you break them?
Are the outers also 35 spline?

Any chance this comes with a 3rd?

Anything you are looking for in trade?

CA_YJ
08-17-2006, 04:52 PM
lighter smaller??? This is the same setup that spidertrax has been running in their comp buggy for over a year with zero issues. There is no way you are going to break the knuckles. the bearings are axial load aurora bearings that are rated for 37,000 radial lbs each...

The outers are not cheap...1200 for the stubs (I think). If you break Jack's shit you have issues! They are 33 spline dodge outers

No 3rd member

Trades? Unless you have 2.5" fox coilovers and 2.5" bypasses that's about all I need.

i believe that spidertrax has two different unit bearing setups advertised, the dodge stuff and I believe f450 or some shit for like twice as much. I think this is what he was referring to. I might just be talking out of my ass though.

CA_YJ

They make both dodge and ford superduty...They have been running the dodge in comps for over a year on a few rigs with zero issues.

You teased me- it's just a bit too far off from what I'm building. I run a 6x5.5, bigger brakes, ford unit brg and matching it to my front so the same spare shafts can be used all around- it's good stuff though.

Might be easier to strip it and just buy a new hsg with inner C's and then sell the old hsg- try pming CJDave- he's building a few for comp rigs

You could turn off the knuckles and flip the axle, but you would then have to redo the steering. Its up to you...I decided to just build new axles...but I am also going with rear steer and with superduty knuckles from spidertrax.

How hard would it be to do that flip you talked about earlier? (let me clarify that - how much would it cost to have a pro shop do it??) I've got a TJ and I'd love to put this in it, but it would have to be flipped to driver side drop. Can it be done without replacing the shafts?

How much for it with no steering gear?

Ya man...so I am at my shop right now and figured I'd pull out the rotors...well unless they are special magnetic heavy aluminum rotors, I was wrong:flipoff2:

Here is the rotor...

Are you running disks on the rear axle...if you are, remove your proportioning valve so its 50/50. The rotors should be fine.

If you had problems with the stock outer shafts and the unit bearing set-up, how hard would it be to change this over to a stock Chevy Dana 60 front spindle and out shafts? In other words, do those knuckles work with anything other than the custom shaft. My concern would be having to purchase $1000-$1200 custom shafts if I broke one. And that is alot of money to drop up front to have spare outers.

You will have the option to going to a 35 spline unit bearing set up using the F-450 set up.

It will be difficult to break one of Jacks shafts and I think they are waranted them for life.

Quinn, sorry I did not get back to you. I have had some health issues and am now back on track. I am going to have to pass though.

Spicer spares are an option...I was told by the guys at spidertrax that Superior also makes a shaft...or have a yukon shaft cut and splined. There are other options, but I wasn't going to carry a spare and I've got a 450HP LS1

anything can break...but jack's stuff is pretty much the shit

Changing it over to a outer setup would be possible, but I think it would be a whole lot of time and money. Not worth it IMO

the thing is that the spidertrax dodge outers are narrower (inner and outer knuckles) than typical kingpin outers so with the same inners I've got you will run about 1" wider per side.
