I am thinking about getting an XJ or ZJ for a daily driver but want to have something with a mild lift and locker in the rear only. I have never owned a jeep, only toyotas but it is time for something different.

I have heard mixed opinions on driving lifted cherokees on a daily basis, so I am here to get everyone elses opinion. My thought are a 95-00 XJ or ZJ with a 4.5" Rubicon lift with whatever tire size I can get away with. I don't really plan nor do I want to do any major cutting but I will cut fenders a little if necessary. I also still want to be able to drive this out of town and on the freeway.

So let me know what you guys think...

I've been using my XJ(s) as daily drivers/trail rigs for the past 7 years with no issues. My current XJ has 7.5" lift,35" MT/Rs,4.56 gears and no sway bars and it does just fine on the road.It handles good at 70+ mph highway speeds (have had it up to 105 mph) and gets about 16 mpg in town and as much as 20 mpg on the open interstate.

Even though this is a newbie section, you still should SEARCH!!!!! Read up a little before you waste people's time with the same old questions.

And by the way, this is an "EXTREME ROCKCRAWLING" website (it is on the top of every page) , not a place for daily drivers.

Try jeepsunlimited.com, that'd be more your style.

I didn't force you to take the time out of your oh so precious schedule to make your asinine comments. If you didn't want your time wasted the title says "dailly driver" right in it, so just don't read it Mr. Extreme:shaking:

Oh yeah, I also believe that the title of this particular forum said Newbie, and flame free, so if you don't want the newbie questions stay the f**k out.

What the heck does that mean?

I also see that you are even nicer than I am. Your quote from another post:

How about removing the railroad tie from your own eye before pointing out the toothpick in mine!!

BTW, I did offer a valid suggestion: www.jeepsunlimited.com, if that doesn't answer your questions, nothing will here either.

I now have had 3 jeep cherokees (4 if you count my brothers) and they were all daily driven. The first one was daily driven from 2" and 30" tires to 5.5" + and 35s with 4.56s with a rear locker. The next one went straight to 35s and 4.88s locked(gearing much better). It was absolutely great and I miss it sometimes. I drove it everywhere. This last one my current daily driver is on 2" or so of lift and stock tires right now. I really dont' wanna get the bug and do anymore lift to it as then you need gears and what not. They have all been great to me. ==================Kyle

If you are done WASTING your time on my post now, we'll get back to the people who actually have something useful to say.

Although I do thank you for the jeepsunlimited.com information, if you had simply said that you might not have gotten this:flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:

Ive been told that anything bigger than 32's rub really easily. Did you have to do much to make the 35's work?

Had a 97 ZJ with 4.5" RE lift, rear locker, 4.10s and 31s. My wife DD this, I wheeled it, and was the family truckster for 3 years and about 60k miles. Worked good.
