Cracked Manifold: not the end of the world, but with my luck I would have have broken the bottom two bolts removing maifold and had to have drilled them out. Just an FYI 97 & 98 D1 are covered via recall. See TSB below for exact details.
Just passing on the info for others who may have this issue.
