the 231, maybe... but are you sure it's a 231 and not a 207?

The peugeot tranny, no.

Yeah, that tranny is worth approximately its weight in shit.

The NP231 will be a 21-spline input, so good luck finding a use for that as well. Maybe behind a newer AX-5 but that's about it.

Changing out the 21 spline input shaft for a 23 spline in the NP231 (used for the AX15 trans) is not difficult. The BA-10/5 has a bad rep (deserved), but will hold up with the 4.0L engine if not beat--as in racing. 5th gear does not like to be lugged down; IE: 50MPH, loaded Jeep, and accelerating; do that often and 5th goes. Also will not tolerate low oil. The gears overheat and loose their hardening. But if you have one, and it goes, I'd spend the time and money swapping in an AX15 or NV3550 (actually I swapped in an NV4500). There's probably a market for the trans outside of the 4X community--lots of "little ole Ladies" driving grocery getter's that aren't interested in "upgrading" to deal with bigger tires! By the way, I also have one laying under my work bench looking fore a new home. In touchy-feely country, it cost too much to throw it away (legally).
