I shaved all the splines off my grant gt steering wheel adapter! The part is now "unavaileble" or can't be shipped soon enough for my trip on cinco de mayo. I need steering wheel or adapter from a 63 to 72 gladiator or j series truck. Anyone got one???

check your local junkyards. odds are they'll have at least a waggy or two in stock, and the steering setups should be the same. if worse comes to worse, you could swap in a whole steering shaft.
good luck

thanks for the advise but i've already scoured the local boneyards and called all the local and not local retailers. Grant will not sell the part direct to me and the places that will order it for me say at least 3 weeks because grant is all fawked up. It looks like they are either heavily restructuring or possibly going out of business. i can't tell. this sucks.

kidwired: all FSJs of a similar year share components. you can bolt in a steering box from a 1991 grand wagoneer to a 1970 J4000
how's that for parts compatibility? ;)
redwilly, sorry to hear that

Can't you just grab a stock steering wheel off another FSJ and use that for now?

I got the impression he was looking in the junkyards for an adapter. There are Dozens of FSJ steering wheels in every junkyard around here - why would anybody want one?

Really:rolleyes:
I'll type slower so you can understand my answer this time.
Get on your bike, pedal over to the junkyard and remove a steeringwheel from an FSJ because unless someone is hoarding them for use as rims on rice burners, there should be plenty avaliable.
Go to www.car-parts.com and put in what you are looking for. I did a search and came up with about 100 of them in CA starting at $25

he says FSJ is NOT interchangeable.
he needs 72 and 73 commando and waggy and 63 thru 72 gladiator and jeepster
and he gets no love from car-parts.com

hrm.... well, there's bound to be some differences in components, especially before/after 1972-1974 (lots of changeovers during these years)
just curious... how'd you strip the splines off of your steering wheel?
if ya get really desperate, you could gank the entire steering shaft assembly from another truck, cut it to fit the FSJ, and bolt it in
good luck

i tried to steer it with the truck not running on asphalt with my 4.7 lock to lock AGR steering.
