Got a free vacuum pump at work. It was for some medical equipment. Little electric driven pump, older looking USA made all of steel.
Guage on it shows it drawing 23" of vac when I block the inlet off.
Anything usefull? Thought maybe for drawing a vac on an AC system but didn't know if that was enough.

Get yourself some kind of a sealed tank. Run a line from the vac pump into the tank and another line from the tank. Use it to bleed brakes, or as a mini vac to clean up oil spills and such. I first made one with a 5 gal bucket and it wasn't strong enough, the bucket would collapse inward after 30 seconds or so. My next is using a tank from a hudson sprayer. You will find a ton of uses for it once you get it dialed in. The 1st one I made used a 12v pump from an ambulance, the 2nd one I am working on has a 120v pump with a couple of switches and a gauge from some sort of a medical device.
The only useful thing I've ever done w my Mityvac was test an Audi turbo diaphragm for leaks..........
but free is free!

This is the pump mounted on the bucket. Note the ultra bootiefab garden hose valve used to meter the amount of vaucum in order to not collapse the bucket

It is not good enough to pump down an AC system. You would want a vane type high vacuum pump that can pull at least 0.1 mm of mercury.
