Hi again,
there are steel replicas of the genuine alloy valve rockers available.
I wonder if they are better. At least they are cheaper sometimes. And main point will be that the do not have steel inserts which can be worn through by the push rods.
There are some:

and here others:

do you think
a) one of them is more desirable than the other
b) I should stay away of them
?

Hendrik

Thanks a lot,
but the linked thread mainly covers the roller rockers and Volvo OEM rockers. Both of them are probably unnecessary for me - the first because of their price and me rarely forcing the engine beyond 3000Upms. The Volvo rockers because I do not need adjustability. And they do not have a cup into which the pushrod can poke, they rather have a "male"/ball-type end so need other pushrods. Not sure what the price will be in the end.
The book from Des Hammill ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1903706173/sr=8-14/qid=1156099498/ref=sr_1_14/103-2118121-4191845?ie=UTF8 ) mentions that the Rover-alloy rockers tend to wear through the steel cup inserts into which the pushrod pushed. After 100.000kmīs there shall be considerable wear and once the steel insert is worn away the pushrod will make its way right through the alloy rocker arm.
So far I havenīt heard of any real disadvantage with using them (the steel replicas). Think Iīll give them a try, unless you can talk me out of doing so.
:)
Cheers !

I've not seen major failures of rocker arms and have only seen two that showed the problems with the seat, and those were problems where the seats became loose in the rocker arm. These were both in '96/'97 Discos.
My truck which now has 216K miles (320K kms) doesn't show any outward indications of rocker arm problems.
I've been told by many sources that the problems with the rockers were somewhat limited to '96 and early '97 model years.
Where I've seen rocker wear is on trucks that have many miles and the cam wear has resulted in the tip wearing badly. In one particular case, the arms were worn badly and in turn, the valve stems were also torn up.
Hurry up and get them and let us (me) know what you think!
I still wanna try to fit a set of roller rockers on Rover shafts. My only concern there is the offset of the tip versus the linear arrangment of commonly available (ebay) rollers.
