I'm wondering how many of you running auto trannies feel like you need more gear reduction? I am using a 4L60E in my project and I'm considering installing lower gears in a split cruiser t-case or a NP203/NP205 setup. Just trying to decide if I really need to spend the money and time on more gear reduction. Realistically I won't be in the rocks that often. Just wanting some opinions from guys with automatics.

i'd say it all depends on your axle gearing and tire size. 700s are geared fairly low.
one thing to keep in mind is the fact that the 203-205 doubler setup is pretty damn heavy and the rear section of the 700 case is not the strongest in the world. having that much weight hangingg off the rear is a little rough on them so make sure to build a kickass x-member to distribute the weight and load!:smokin:

I meant to put more info in that post. I'll be running 4.11 gearing and 35" tires. I didn't want to lower the diff gearing for now. This truck will see a lot of highway driving anywhere I go. I have a crossmember to put under a NP205 already to deal with the weight. What I'm not sure about if I go the 203/205 route is the rear end. I have considered the centered axle using the Cruiser diffs and mini truck axles. This would let me utilize all the third members I have as spares. I guess I would have to have a weird drive shaft though. NP205 to a Cruiser rear-end. I don't know if I really feel like going to a D60 or 14 bolt rear, too much money for me right now.

I'm running exactly that.. NP205 t-case to a centered LC diff...
It's actually quite a nice setup.. we kept the toyota u-joints at the diff end, with the female end of the splines on that u-joint. At the t-case, it's a chevy u-joint, which will take MUCH more abuse than the 'yota joint.
I carry a spare toyota joint/spline/flange deal assembled and lubed on the rig. If I should break one (we made the f&r interchangable), just take out 4 bolts, slide the old one out, slide the new one in, tighten the bolts, and go!

I am running a 350 auto with the 203 reduction box on my cruiser transfer case. I love the set up. I am running 35's and 411 gears. I thing is just sweet. when going down hill in the steep you hardly ever have to use the brakes. I live 2 hours from Moab and hve it in the rocks all the time and it is the bomb baby. It works real well and I have had no problems at all. I made a super duty cross member to support the 203 box and the cruiser case, and from the tranny to the 203 reduction box I fabbed a setup that connects the two for added support of the tranny to 203 box.
