: Anything wrong with running stock rears all the way 'round?
dangerber 04-24-2002, 09:34 PM Ok, I'm looking for cheep mods to do with parts I have on hand, to tide me over for the summer, then I'm doing toy axles and YJs next winter. I've got an extra set of stock rears, can I run them all the way around? I thought someone told me that it isn't good to run the same springs front and rear, because you get some sort of oscillation???
What cha think??:D
Zukinstein 04-24-2002, 09:52 PM If you use missing links, you are supposed to use the rears up front. Remove the bottom overload leaf. You may have to adjust the rear height, as the rear springs will lift the front a little.
dangerber 04-24-2002, 10:00 PM Ok, so they would be different enough after removing the overload. Can I just run them with a longer shackle, and not run missing links??
spencurai 04-24-2002, 10:11 PM i was told to put the bottom two leafs from the front onto the rear leaf pack minus the overload and i now have a smooth and damned flexy ride:) :) i did not use M/L shackles but my shackles are at a hefty angle due to the extra length but i have not had any adverse effects surface so far. go for rears all around if you feel like it. i put cj's in the rear and have been pretty happy so far!!:flipoff2:
Zukinstein 04-24-2002, 10:12 PM Ran out to the rig and looked and measured. The rear leafs are somewhere between 3.5" to 4" longer than the fronts. Couldn't find the angle finder quickly to measure, but it looks like it would make the shackles point out front quite a bit. I removed the overloads to help it tuck the tires in the fender better and make it softer, I read that somewhere. I have seen long, angled shackles on the rear of front susp. but not out in front, so I don't know how well it would work or if it would make wierd things happen. I know also with the m'links a panhard is almost a must for street handling and steering

Did you use the stock spring hanger for the rear of the front springs, or did you use(or make) a rear up front kit??
Thanks for the info!

Ummm you no yjs are the same lenght .
scwafish 04-25-2002, 06:48 AM YJs and sami rears are NOT the same length.

Not length that is the concern, but spring rate.

i *think* he actually meant YJ front and rears are the same length, (not that YJ's are the same length as Sammy rears...):emb:
just a guess?
dparker 04-25-2002, 01:35 PM did you see a single word mention about sammy springs in my post?
ever yj sping i have ever pulled off is the same lenght. wasnt takin about yj's and sammys just yj's.
dangerber 04-25-2002, 02:03 PM Did you notice that this post is not about YJ springs? I was asking about sammi springs.
dparker 04-25-2002, 02:26 PM guess you should have not mentioned you where going to yj's in your first post this winter .seeing how you where worried about sammy all the way around osc . and yjs are the same lenght.
:D
But yes on 1 of my zuks im running rears all the way around on it too. just liked mentioned before with 2 of the front pac leaves added so to do this you need axtra front pact too..
also running Ms links all the way around on it too. for the front i just drilled my mounting bolt hole back about 3/4 of a inch and with the added M/S links its about in factory postion.
dparker 04-25-2002, 02:29 PM O if you need pics let me no i can get some too you of the hole install.
dangerber 04-25-2002, 02:30 PM Oh yeah, I did mention YJs didn't I . :D
Thanks for the info! :D
Rocky Road 04-26-2002, 07:35 AM You would not want to just bolt rear springs to the front end without modification. The shackles will poke way out which will cause very sloppy handling and you'll lose a ton of turning radius on the trail as the shackle push around.
You can cut and reweld your spring hangers, or we also have a kit which makes it a super quick and easy modification.

Rear springs up front are becoming more and more popular since they flex better and ride smoother than fronts. Expect to get another 1/2" of lift by moaving them up front though.
Any questions on this, feel free to drop us a line.
