Hey guys,
Ok, This is my forst post here so thanks in advance for the help. First I'll explain what's going on with my front suspension. Currently I have a 2" Daystar spacers on my '01 1500 Off Road Ram, with Bilstein 5100's for a 5" lift and Sky Jacker drop brackets for my track bar and sway bar. I am currenty running 35" BFG KO's on 16x8" rims. I put the shocks on about 10 months ago, but other wise this is the set-up that I have had since 2003. I recently got the urge to start working on my truck again so I figured that I'd go ahead and build up the truck that I've always wanted. So I started with the front.
Two weeks ago I installed some Rough Country control arms from their 5" kit. These things fit the bill perfectly for where I am going with this thing. They are very stout and the right length. Next week I should be receiving my custom coils from Valley Spring Works. These will sit 4" above my truck's stock height (about the same height as 5" Sky Jacker coils), but will allow for 7" of down travel to compliment the 5" of up travel that I'll be getting. The plan will eventually (read: when I have more money) call for Thuren shock towers and Sway-A-Way Race Runner 2.5" 12" stroke, remote resevoir shocks. For the time being I am going to chop my 5" factory shock towers down 3.25" so that I can use the Bilsteins that I currently have. These will allow for 11" of travel, though not as plush as the Race Runners will be. I will be using Sky Jacker 6" bump stops and limiting straps to keep everything in one peice.
Now for the rear. This is where I can really use some help. I would really like to get a set of Deaver prerunner leaf packs damped by the same shocks as the front end. But 700 bucks is way out of my budget for now. I talked to the guys at Deaver and they said they could build me a set of mini-packs like those on the Kore kits for around 200 bucks. This is tempting because of the price and I know that they will give me the ride I want. The problem is that my current leafs have about 10" of travel. The Deaver Mini-packs might free up another inch, but I really want 14" of travel in the back and I'd like to lose the block. So here is the question that I'd like to pose to all of the suspension experts out there. If I could find some used 6" SJ packs, lose the block, change the perch on the axle and remove a leaf or two, could I get a softer riding longer travel spring pack with out dishing out the dough for the Deavers? Should I just get the Mini-Packs and call it good and settle for what is available? Or should I save up for the Deavers? Can anyone offer a little help? Thanks in advance.
