I just put an Atlas II behind my 999 auto in the YJ. Fluid levels good (maybe a little full) . I've got it clocked close to stock angle - I've got a 3/4" spacer under the poly tranny mount and I had to cut a portion of the reinforcement on the skid plate to get it to fit, so it might be a little steeper angle. It's got a intermittent "clackity clack" noise to it as I'm driving in 2 HI (or 4 HI) above 15 mph. Tends to quiet down a little when driven for a while, but it's still there. Is this a normal noise for an Atlas? Could I have it clocked too far down, and maybe the bearings aren't being properly lubed?

Chris, first thing check for stuff hitting, or interfearing with normal movements. I've found stuff like the brackets that the shifters attach to on a stock TJ t/case can do things like you suggest. Try to isolate it using front 4 hi, then rear 2 hi etc. If it looks like the Atlas I can call them for you or you can call my inside guy. Call us tommorow 800-504-5337. We sell lot's of these so we talk they listen. AA's customer service is great so let me know if it's looking like the case. Thanks again

OK - a little more testing tonight. Not too many places nearby I can put it in 4 HI and get going 30 MPH. The people at the local college soccer fields seemed a little upset at the amount of dust I was raising in the parking lot :D
Here's what I found:
It's worst in 2 HI. Seems to get better after 10 miles or so of 50+ MPH driving. Almost nonexistent in 4 HI (as far as I could tell over all the sh!t rattling in the college parking lot). Doesn't seem to do it at all in 2 LO (F or R) or 4 LO, but I can't exactly get going over 15 - 20 MPH. Also does it to a lesser extent in nuetral with the tranny in drive and revved a little. Maybe it's nothing. TELL me it's nothing, please
I don't know, maybe I should just take it out over Memorial Day weekend and see what happens :smokin:

withamc - Chris,
You might want to pull your front drive shaft and check the CV joint casting.
The 1310 Yoke on the Atlas does have a minor clearance problem to the CV joint casting on some installations. I have seen this and AA will tell you about it if you call them.
The solution is to grind off a very small amount of metal off the outer edge of the Yoke.
If you are having this problem you will see it on the CV casting as two very minor shinny spots. From there you can figure out what you would need to grind off the yoke.
This will cause a clicking sound similar to what you have described.
Hope this helps you out.
