Has anyone ever tried a set of front straight tractor housings? If so what did you use for a hydraulic pump and do you have any pics or know where I could see some similar setups??

Thanks

Are you talking about axles? If so I have thought about it alot, most of em use planetaries in the hubs, so overall they have really low gearing, cause they are used to push 36-54" tires.
most of them use a hyraulic cylinder cast into the housing, you could just use a hydraulic pump that runs off the engine, and an orbital valve.

Ya I am talking about the axles. Do you happen to know where I could find some info on similar setups??

Thanks

I believe that there is someone on here running them under thier buggy. Actually just before I jumped on here to look at what was going on I was looking for a pair myself. On older tractors to add hydraylics we used a power steering pump and an external large resivoir. Should be able to do the same since all you are doing ia turning. Also hyrdalic assist steering uses a tap off the power steering. This is basically what you will need to make the steering work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JEEP-DANA60-CHAR-LYNN-HYDRAULIC-STEERING-ORBITAL-VALVE_W0QQitemZ190019048400QQcmdZViewItem

Only problem I see with these axles is:
They are completely cast, will be hard to weld brackets onto, also really heavy
Cost is gonna be huge, there are not many of these MFWD axles just layin around, it is gonna be tough finding a set
I dont really know of any info, they are usually made by the manufacterer, all John Deere fronts have deere cast into them
