: Intermittant vibrations?

98 6.5 1500 'Burb with 167K miles. Get a vibe that starts about 62-65 MPH, usually at the same spots on the highway. When the vibes start, if I pull a little left or right so one set of tires is riiding more on the middle of the lane than the normal "two track" does help slightly. I tried R&Ring the dshaft ujoints, but couldn't get the internal retaining rings out last night. The caps on the axle yoke were still well greased with no obvoius play. Tonight I'm hoping to jack the front up to check wheel bearings and TREs.

Is there something in particular I should focus on?

with it only happening at a certain speed at a known place on the highway I would say it might just be harmonics. The grooves int he road and your tires spinning all come into play at just the right frequency.

Ok or maybe not just a stab at it if you cant find anything wrong.

Wheel out of balance or out of round???

I had a vibration on my jeep at 65mph - it turned out to be a wheel was 1/8" out of round (bent).

I thought of that, and moving a couple of feet in the lane to one side or other does help a little, but I've had the truck for a year and only noticed the problem in the last couple of weeks.

Just like an out of balance tire, if this was the case wouldn't the vibe always happen when I hit 62? It doesn't happen all the time, that's what has me scratching my dandruff...

 I've been meaning to do the Airsoft pellet trick, maybe this will prod me into doing it sooner rather than later.

Thanks
