I have a chance to pick up a 84 Dodge 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup for cheap for the axles (for a possible Sammy swap). The front looks like it is a d44 and the rr looks like the front but a bigger cover (D60?) It has a 360/auto in it. Any clue what possible gears could be in it and is it possible to be a D60 in the back? Lastly the spindles look like they are "flat tops", are the ones on there good applicants for being drilled for high steer arms?

Thanks,
Eric

If it's out of a 1 ton truck it's likely going to be a front Dana 60/rear Dana 70 truck. If it's a 3/4 ton it's most likely going to be a front Dana 44/rear Dana 60. Gears should be 3.55 or 4.10's.

Agreed, and the knuckles are good for high steer.

What is easiest way to tell if it is a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton since it is sans any badges...

Thanks.

Weight class sticker or plate in the door, or VIN is probably the best way to tell what it was originally. ID'ing the axles themselves is really what you are after though. More than likely you have a D44 front and D60 rear. The cover on the D60 and D70 are the same size, so if the front one is smaller it's probably a D44.

yeah thats what I'm thinking they are. Is it more common to have 4.10's or 3.55's with a 360 and an auto in that year 3/4 ton?

I've seen more 4.10s than anything.
