I have a 94 Disco (Hence the name :D ), and I need to have my block rebuilt. Any ideas on cost considering that I will do none of the work or buy any of the parts myself?

Short blocks around $2k if you look hard enough, Head work another 500+ and new seals, gaskets, head bolts, 100+. That doesn't include new cam, lifters, or water pump. Oh Yea labor too. I think the local LR dealer is up to around $8k for engine replacements.

A good arguement could be made for buying a newer Disco and swapping over all your off-road goodies.

D&D Automotive has short blocks for 500.00. They need bearings, honing, and rings.

I got a 4.0 short block from them last month. Had it honed, new rings, bearings all the way around 258 Bosch cam, new timing set, ported and polished heads with ground valve guides and valve job, gaskets, etc.... whole turn key deal at ~2350.00. Basically a brand new motor with approx 250-270HP. Runs like a champ.

Block 500.00
Heads 350.00
Machine work, cleaning, and installation of beaings, rings, cam, timing set 800.00
Cam and timing set 500.00
gaskets, oil, filters, plugs, wires, etc... $$$

250-270hp I wish I had those under my hood. I could break some stuff right up with hp #'s like that:D

I paid about the same to have the head work done on the Black Disco I had I think. Damn my memory ain't what it used to be.

It's that labor that is going to kill it. If you can pull the old motor yourself and install the new one then that will save you big $.
