I am going to put a 14 bolt in my '96 GMC and have a few questions. When I do it I am going to also install ORD's shackle flip and new 4" springs for about 8" of lift. WHat needs to be done with the driveshaft to be able to hook it up?? Will I even be able to use the stock one? The axle also has disc brakes, other than longer brake lines what do I need. Will the stock master cylinder work for this? What about ABS, I know it has it on the front but I'm pretty sure there is none in the rear, is that right?? Am I missing anything else??
Thanks.

8 in. of lift = New D-shaft... WWW.HIGHANGLEDRIVELINE.COM Have jesse upgrade the axle yoke to a 1330-1350 u-joint for you.
to use the disc brakes you will need to make new E-brake cables to actuate the E-brake on the calipers. You might even need a "proportioning valve" to adjust the disc brake bias. ABS will not work on this axle so you might have "inspection" problems (light can't be on). Oh yeah.....HEY NEWBIE....

Thanks for the info Shaker. Don't have inspections around here, (yet!) so that shouldn't be a problem.
Has anyone out there done this swap???

I went from a 10 bolt to a 14 bolt in my 92, using the shackle flip and drop away shackles and I have about 9" of lift and the stock driveshaft bolted right up (with a crossover ujoint), and had plenty of slip left at full flex. The extra length of the 14bolt yoke compensated for the lift. I have since ditched the stock aluminum shaft in favor of a much stronger steel unit, but the stock one got me around for a year. If you're going from a SF14 to a FF14 it will probably require a new shaft. Good luck.

Hey Monzter,
Thanks for the reply. I am going from a 10-bolt to 14FF so hopefully all I'll have to do is replace the u-joint. When you did the swap did you also go with discs in the rear??

No I stuck with the 13x3 drums, they work just fine. I'd like to swap to discs but there's a few things ahead of it on the list.

I swapped my ten bolt out for a 14 on m 95. im running a 5"skyjacker spring along with shackle flip and 3" block and still using the stock driveshaft. thats just temporary though. i just cut the spring pads and shocked mounts. rewelded both of them to the right position. didnt even ue the e-brake cable cause im going discs later. then got a conversion joint, new steel braided line and new hard line and hooked everything up. all went together smooth.
