What exactly do you mean it won't 'stay timed' and how are you adjusting it?

How are you adjusting it? Are you unplugging the spout connector and setting it to zero?

Unplug the connector by the distributor, then set timing to 0, shut off and tighten dist., recheck, then plug connector back in.

The wire is under the cover on the passinger side on the firewall, it's a singal wire you need to unplug on the tbi motor, time it to zero tighten the distributor turn off motor plug back in wire start up motor and the brain will set it to the proper order of firing and it wont be at zero because the brain box will reset it to fire at tdc
