Setting up the drive train for my V8 conversion.

So far a NV4500 trans, D60 rear and a HP D44 from an 8 lug are set aside waiting.

How about the transfercase ? Is the 231 gonna handle a mild small block and 35`s ? Or should I be looking for a different Dana ?

Or just say the hell with it and spring for the Atlas ?

Thanks

well you could get a 231 behind a dodge v8 in a durango but most of the pickups used a 231 or 241. Something tells me that you are going to regret it though being you have a 4500 hooked to a v8 with 35's (which I doubt will stay for long until the 37s or 39s eventually)

I would say a minimum of a dana 300, something gear drive. A HD chain may take the abuse but the 231 case may not and just split apart when you throttle up.

231J or 231C?

The C is a heavier duty t-case then the 231 found in a jeep, wider sprockets and chain. I run a 231 behind my 300 hp + 355 in my jeep. Havn't had a problem yet.
