I have rebuilt my NP208 several timees. It is best done out of the vehicle and on a workbench. There are bearings and bushings that can easially be seated incorrectly if not.

I have since gone to a NP241, but I have never had that one apart. They are very similar, but have a few internal modifications that make it a little better than the NP208.

I got my rebuild kit from Rockland Standard Gear. Their parts are high quality, and their service and shipping was very good. Here is the blowup of the NP241 with the respective part numbers:

The 241 case is absurdly simple, you can just remove the snap rings and pull the rear case half off and then get the main shaft out all without removing it from the truck.

How exactly did you break the shaft? Im just curious as I have a 241 in my truck as well, albeit with an SYE, but Im always curious to hear the causes of breakage.

My guess is that his snap ring broke first, thus allowing the shaft to walk back and forth. Thsi is best solved with a SYE.

Where are you located? I have a bunch of parts
