: 90's Rover that doesent move Grinding!
firestorm128 08-24-2006, 10:31 AM My friend has an early/mid 90s landrover.... Suddenly it no longer moves. Starts and runs great you shift into drive and a scary broken shaft sound comes out of the front end and it doesent move. You also can steer it to the right but it barly will steer to the left with much effort. Something sounds verry broken in the front end. Being a diHard Toyota man I suspected a broken Tcase shaft or half shaft. But after looking under the front of this thing....... Yeah Im completly lost.... Any ideas? Ill try to get the Year and model. Thanks in advance!
Puffdragon 08-24-2006, 10:57 AM Shift into diff lock, shift into Drive, turn steering weheel full left as far as you can. Then Apply full power with brakes on, then release the brakes. Problem solved.
If you that inexperianced with trucks, and you cant figure it out, its likely a broken CV. A good way of checking the rest of the drive train is to put the truck in Diff lock, and see if the truck tries to move forward at that point. Of course do not drive the truck though. Then remove the broklen CV and replace.
Oh, the diff lock lever is that little knob that shifts the truck into low range. Just push it to the side.
PTSchram 08-24-2006, 12:15 PM KC's got it pretty well covered. What year/model is it? Different ways to deal with different models.
firestorm128 08-24-2006, 03:21 PM Thanks for the tips. =)
Its a 1994 Discovery.
Does this have CV Joints? I was looking under there and I dont see anything like a CV shaft? Also Its an Automatic and I dont see any manual dif lock? Ill be honest I know nothing bout these rigs. Im all Toyota, But a truck a truck it cant be too hard. can you give me a bit more detail on this suguestion that you guys recomended? Basicly its like this the nearest LardRover dealership is 185 miles away.. And there as far as I know not a single place here that can really work on it. So if yall can help me out on this one it would be great.. Thanks so much for the fast replies too... =)
Thanks!
firestorm128 08-24-2006, 03:23 PM I tried all gears it doesent move at all... no rear wheels no front wheels she just dont move....... Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
red90rover 08-24-2006, 04:19 PM Oh for christ sake.......
Put the fucking thing in drive.... Look underneath, are any driveshafts turning???
The diff lock / high-low lever is the OTHER stick push it to the side to lock. Is the transfer case in high or low or strangely enough neutral.
The CVs are in the front axle....they allow the fucking thing to turn and still get power.

The Rover setup is damn near identical to the Toyota in terms of both the steering and axles. If you're a toyota guy this should have been a no-brainer. :shaking:

He a Toyota guy, call them birfs and He might understand. But with our luck He is a IFS Toy guy! :flipoff2:
m016324 08-25-2006, 12:52 AM discoweb.org is the answer to all the questions you ask you'll probably fit beautifully over there

Ok Mr. Go Fuck your self! I'm Not completely inept! I am a Toyota "IFS" Guy first of all... And Duh!!!! Really I didn’t bother to look under the thing before taking the time to actually post on this completely useless site! Just because someone asks for help doesn’t give you assholes with a God Complex the invitation to treat us like shit! I should have known all you arrogant pompous rich Landover assholes would be a complete waste of time! I thank those of you that gave an honest effort at making a guess… But I think Ill go else where for help in the future. And you can say all the “Good riddance” And “Yea that idiot went away” comments you want. It is obvious that you are one of those people that gets aggressive if you don’t know an answer to a question. I assume you are probably a wife beater as well. And probably a child molester too I would think. It is extremely common for someone in your condition to turn to condescending verbal treatment when asked a simple question rather than simply say…. “Um not sure dude” “Good Luck”… But that’s ok I do understand you can get help. Go to www.webmd.com and click on the mental treatments link you can anonymously talk to a counselor and get some help! I make this suggestion because I care… No really I do… If you don’t get your god complex taken care of soon it will eventually ruin your life. Like most mental illnesses the sufferer doesn’t usually realize he or she has a problem till it is too late. So that is why I am taking the time to point this out to you… Good luck on your treatments…….

You are wrong. He clearly knows the answer to your question.
64rovr 08-29-2006, 12:13 PM If you didnt bother to look under the truck before posting on this site, are we wasting your time or are you wasting ours? Really consider that before you reply.

Or maybe look in the manual to see how to shift the t-case...

Of course I looked under the rig... Duh! I wouldn’t have even posted a question before troubleshooting a few things. I was merely looking for some advice before loading this heavy thing onto a trailer for the 180Mile trip to the dealer. As for this being identical to a Toyota drive train..... Well I have built and rebuilt countless Toyota's All IFS, I never claimed to be an expert I don’t even mind someone telling me I have no idea what I’m doing... I just don’t think it’s proper to be Swore at for asking a question. I think I have full right to retaliate for that kind of response.
“Uh!!!! Really I didn’t bother to look under the thing before taking the time to actually post on this completely useless site!”
Um…… that would be (you may remember from English class……) what is called a “sarcastic sentence”. Reading requires more than letter identification. It also requires thinking process.
There is nothing under this truck that is even close to the Toyota IFS except the 4 wheels this pile of crap sits on. The first reply to my original question had list of a few things to try. I merely asked for a bit more information on this scenario. No excuse for someone to tell me to Fuck this and That! And treat me like shit….
So I am going to give my GF my 4runner and drive my Tacoma, and take this over- expansive pile of shit back to the trash shop Seattle Dealership that it came from and tell them to sick it sideways.. And go back to 4x4wire.com for my tech stuff where the people are far friendlier and way more intelligent.. And I have not in 4 years been cussed at! For asking a question!
So as for Red90Rover you can go find a quite corner to Fuck Yourself in till you relive all your sexual frustration. And 5 bucks says you either Beat your wife or molest your children!
And I do thank the rest of you for your time; I apologize for wasting it with a question.
Discosaurus 08-29-2006, 03:05 PM And I do thank the rest of you for your time; I apologize for wasting it with a question.
...and another wiener Rookie bites the dust
red90rover 08-29-2006, 04:27 PM Bwahahahaha..... Jesus man lighten up. This is Pirate. I thought I was being quite helpful. Did you try what Puffdragon asked?? No!!! so you got yelled at......
Did you happen to do what I asked???? No, Yes, maybe????
Here let me rephrase
1) Put the vehicle in drive with the parking brake on.... Look underneath, are any driveshafts turning??? The driveshafts are the round things going into the front and rear axles. By answering this little question we will know WHAT IS WRONG.
2) Move the diff lock / high-low lever to the left side to lock it. Will it now move????
3) Is the transfer case in high or low or strangely enough neutral. Push the lever forward to make sure the transfer case is in gear.
:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Take a valium dude.
Hey, where do you live, I'm sure someone will buy the useless non working Rover off of you....
Puffdragon 08-29-2006, 07:25 PM I bask in the glory of all you rich snob rover guys. Fawk you all, you dont know shit. Bwahahaha. What the fawk happened here. Im not sure if the noob schooled you or if it was the other way around. Sounds like I gotta go over to 4x4wire.com to do a little schoolin of my own.

Puffdragon 08-29-2006, 09:17 PM Ben, calm down, your pullin on supermans cape a little to hard. He might come back and beat you down verbally.
Dougal 08-29-2006, 11:50 PM Wouldn't the obvious be to jack up each wheel and see which ones turn by hand?
PTSchram 08-30-2006, 05:40 AM Hey, where do you live, I'm sure someone will buy the useless non working Rover off of you....
OOH, OOH, OOH, Can I have it, can I, huh, huh?
My stock of parts trucks is badly depleted.:flipoff2:
PTSchram 08-30-2006, 05:42 AM Wouldn't the obvious be to jack up each wheel and see which ones turn by hand?
And the obvious one to start with would be either the front one nearest the grinding noise, or failing that, the one without any grease in the swivel ball.

That'd be the one that isn't leaking.:D

Oh the drama. Seems like this guy likes it rough. We may have a new gimp. Of course Red Rover has gotten on my nerves plenty in the past. But now that the newbie has filled us in on his history I understand why.
Really now Toy Boy. Can't you make more of an effort before you ask a complete group of strangers to lead you by the hand, diagnosing your problem. Doesn't IFS have a differential and axles and CV joints. Different, but the same.
We don't do touchy feely here. Grow some thicker skin or bend over and we'll drive.
Oh yeah, we don't care what you GF drives either.
JP
Puffdragon 08-31-2006, 11:36 AM Wait pendy, Im interested in what his Goat fucker drives. Oh wait was that supposed to be Girl friend, or what?
PTSchram 08-31-2006, 01:09 PM In this case, GF might mean Ghey Friend:flipoff2:
