I'm removing a 3 inch body lift because the 6 inch spring lift is plenty for my tires. When I went underneath to look around yesterday, I noticed that there were no bushings under the 3 inch pucks on the bed. Should the bed have bushings in the stock setup? Or does the bed sit right on the frame? BTW, it's a 72 K10.
On a side note, I'm planning on putting a 4L80E into the truck. I would hate to find out later that I need some body lift to get the thing in? Anyone have experience there?
Thanks,
Whit

Just put on a new set of neopreame bushings since your their anyway
I personally like a little body lift. Just makes it easier to wrench on.
And Yes their should be a bushing inbetween the frame and body.

i'll have to double check, but i'm 99% sure when i replaced all the body mounts on my 78 k10, it did not have mounts for the bed, it just bolted to teh frame.

Um, yeah, the bed bolt directly to the frame. Only the cab and radiator support have body bushings.

Personally I like having the body lift. It makes it much easier to get acess to the upper bellhousing bolts. We just use about 4 feet of extension and a swivle at the socket end. Run it up from the back end and :smokin: I'm not sure how high of a lift is needed to do it this way, an inch maybe two  But its definatly a time saver and much easier than having to crawl into the engine compartment and stick a wrench between the engine and firewall.

You dont need any body lift to pull the trany bolts from the rear of the tranywith a long extention and a wable. Just pull the x-member and drop the trany down and inch or two and your good to go. I personaly dont like BL's just because they tend to crack and spit out under heavy use and I think they look crapy with a huge gap between the body and frame.
Also, the body does not need to be lifted to fit the 4l80.
I just put a 1" ORD body lift on mine. Aluminum pucks. No huge gap (or noticable gap at all). Its all bolted in so there is no worry about things spitting out. Like everything, it all depnds on how you do it.

You always find amazing things when disecting other people's work. The rear bumper was welded to the frame. The front frame was cut and welded up 3 inches to make the bumper level. I understand welding rather than bolting if you want permanent but the I took out the welds with a hammer. It looked more like solder than weld. That was the most welding I've ever done on a frame but at least it's right now.
