O.k. Yes I am a newbie...there I said it. Anywho, I am also a Chevy guy so forgive me my sins. I am going to look at a Dana 60 this weekend, and the owner swears it is out of a Ford. Problem being is that it is a passenger side differential, and I thought all Fords were drivers side. Am I wrong? Just curious. He said he pulled the cover and the inners are 35 spline. I dunno what vehicle it came out of or even what year, so I am not much help. I am just wondering if it is possibly a Ford. (Not that I care as long as it is a 60!) Thanks all and have a few    on me!

I'll help a newbie. :flipoff2:

There aren't any pass side drop Ford axles that I know of. There were some *very* early ones (read 50's and 60's) that were pass side, but I don't think any of those were dana. For the "good" years -- 78-79 and 86-97, you won't see a pass. drop D60 from Ford.

Mebbe it's just me, but I dunno how you'd count splines just by pulling the cover. There's usually too much crap in the way. It's easy enough to tell a 16 spline from a 35, but beyond that, I'd think you have to pull an axle.

I saw an old ford a few months ago that was pass drop. I think it must have been a 60's era truck. Looked really nice though!

The 1963 Ford 4x4 Heavy Half-ton F100 for sale by my house had a drivers side drop Dana 44. Closed knuckle low pinion.

Exactly. Any Ford front old enough to be pass side drop will be closed knuckle, drums, probably low spline count, etc.

Hey Mr. N. See if you can find out what T-case is in that '63 that's for sale.

All fords are 'Supposed' to be drivers drop after '59 when they started doing the 4x4's in house for the F-100 and F-250.

M&H conversions I 'thought were drivers drop but not 100% sure. Any of the Napco's probably are Passenger drop. But both of these should be older than '59.

On topic: If it is a D-60 and Passenger drop it will be low pinion and not Ford.

I didn't think it would be a Ford. Good thing too, my Chebby would proly reject it!:flipoff2: Thanks everyone I do appreciate the help. I talked with him again today after reading through this and he knows it is a Dana 60 kingpin style passenger side diff with 35 spline inners. I don't care what it came out of, but I was pretty sure it wasn't the ford like he thought. Anywho, thanks again! Have a  on me!
