Get an adapter plate for the existing intake manifold, or get one tuned for high performance TBI use. Adapter plate should be around $20.00 at a speed shop. Using the factory TBI intake will probably restrict flow (who wants that)? THen get a PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory) burned for your truck from any of the reputable companies. Have the cam specs, torque convertor stall speed, gear ratio, tire size & intended octane rating ready for them. Also, if offroad only (he he) eliminate the EGR ( not sure if vacuum, or ECM controlled, will check tomorrow).

I would also get a high performance TBI unit ( Google search) or plenum & injector spacers (Google also) All the major speed catalogs have it all listed.

Or, you can go all freaky with 2 - 4.3 L throttle bodies on a short tunnel ram or dual quad manifold with a harness & PROM. I have heard of them, but never seen one, personally.I am trying to talk the old school loader operator at the junk yard I work at to do this in his 70 elcamino.

Headers, low restriction intake setup, good plugs, wires, coil & other stuff & you're ready to burn some old dinosaurs....

Oh, if your trans is tired, now is a good time to freshen it up, as going from 185 HP to a possible 450 will kick it's ass.

New fan clutch or taurus fans or both with a better radiator will help with cooling issues.

Anything else?
